armed with will and determination, and grace, too. 40something encouragement auntie of conscience. mobilian. lawyer. doing my best. joy in the face of horrors. you can do this.

"we are concern, we are hope despite the times." - R.E.M.
like, my fellow mobilians are not what i would call world class drivers on a regular day. but today has been a masterclass in "car go here now WHEEEEEE" lunacy. and we haven't even been out at peak mania time!

behold: the borked af holiday card, with special appearance by the extremely offline beloved, whose name is neither anna nor ellie.

these were such nice cards, too...

[the plan B cards, not as picturesque but filled with love and featuring correct names, go out tomorrow]

15+ years of lawyering has finely honed my skills in the civil but firm email department. it took exactly two loops. tl;dr:

me: you f'ed up

them: credit? reprint?

me: it's 12/23 dude, be real - refund

them: ok refund

me: thank you for your quick response

done and dusted, on to plan B.
we just walked in the door...

... for me to find my cards, all of them, were printed with two random women's names on them instead of ours.

and the only customer service they have is an email address.

i am INCANDESCENTLY angry.

i FINALLY found my copy of @nikostratis.com's book in my office - had lost it for months - and opened up the epigraph page to find possibly my favorite moment from my favorite character on my second-favorite show. i am so ready for this read.

this is a fun piece - i have had cake from this bakery, though not this one, and it rules. but i am INSULTED that someone thinks coconut is a "grandmother" flavor profile.
It is a holiday season tradition that Tom Cruise sends what is assumed to be his favorite cake to an untold number of luminaries in his Rolodex. It is also a tradition that we, the denizens of entertainment media, are compelled to discuss this cake and its lore.

for those curious: the MNF radio broadcast was kevin harlan and ross tucker. right before rivers threw that last pick-six, they had just reduced each other to giggles doing an extended bit about kevin getting a kilt for christmas from ross. this season has been S-tier for football on the radio.

this is the sweetest little thing. worth your time. ❤️
In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.

tonight is my favorite date night of the whole year: réveillon at the pelican club. the food is incredible, the people are so nice. just the best meal.

there's a parking garage in the CBD that also advertises for a massage spa in the same building, which results in my favorite sign:

re: what we were saying about building your cheer muscles -

driving through these lights every year is just pure delight. it never fails to make me smile. it makes me remember how it felt to be a kid driving around looking at lights. just pure simple joy.
December 21, 2025 at 2:59 AM
so uh, about being done at the christmas lights at 8:30. we got in queue to get into city park at 7:15. ticket has not been scanned. last saturday before christmas might've been a tactical error for this...

so. many. holiday. bar crawls. 😖
December 20, 2025 at 9:46 PM
called a last minute audible to extend the saints game to a full christmas weekend. hermes bar, celebration in the oaks, réveillon tomorrow, all that good stuff. ⚜️🎄

yesterday's funeral celebrated the gifts of love and care we all got from mr. M. he practiced spreading cheer every second of his life. it nourished him and he turned every bit of that around to nourish everyone else. his son said "dad *lived* to serve in love." we'd all do well to remember that.
creating and spreading good cheer are skills, muscles that many of us aren't taught to exercise... I'm trying to lean into the holiday season as a time to hit those reps a little harder, and add a little more weight to the stack

bah, my vibes bébés lost again, but honestly, there's no beating minnesota on prince night. that's a cosmic power you just can't beat.
December 20, 2025 at 6:27 AM
catching up on the darts. some very pale british boy chose "hypersonic missiles" as his walk up music. the whole crowd was singing that intensely lefty political song...

... and the cheerleaders were dancing to it. lol.
