"Yet none of us are really asking the question above because the answer would require societal wide systemic change"

^^THIS^^
4 / And reasonable adjustments are increasingly deemed impossible by schools so anyone with additional needs is finding it harder and harder to access school.

Yet none of us are really asking the question above because the answer would require societal wide systemic change
I did it! I applied for, got accepted to, and completed the MagicSchool AI Ambassador program! @magicschoolai.bsky.social
15 days and counting ... 🤯 learning today - our custodial and food services unions have it in their contract that NO DESKS, TABLES, COUNTERTOPS will be cleaned by them. 👀 Who cleans your horizontal (above the floor) surfaces???
Every once in awhile you post something and I think ... who took Hank and how do we get him back?? Then, I realize, nope that's Hank...❤️
TL;DR
You can't just implement a new/different grading system and hope it works.
You must change how instruction is designed and delivered.
You must engage students in the process every step of the way.
I also do not believe the whole "grades are motivators" ... for a certain set of students, sure. For the students who benefit most from a no-zero system, absolutely not. But, it's an easy fix to a system that requires a fundamental shift in practice.
gradebook. Formative tasks must build skill and content knowledge needed to complete the graded summative tasks. Also a vital piece is the conversations happening with sts about what the system is, how it works, and why it is beneficial. And those conversations are not one-and-done...but continuous.
instructional design. One of the major problems with implementing a no-zeros or SBG system is in the initial rollout. Training on how to design instruction in such as system cannot be overlooked. You cannot do what you always did before and just decide some assignments don't need to go into the
Initial thoughts from a skim read ... if assignments/tasks assigned do not lead to learning needed to "pass" the summative assessments, what is their purpose? If a student can not submit one essay, but pass an ELA class-students are taking advantage not b/c of the grading system, but b/c of
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this! Sometimes I just need to read versus hear and keeping show notes like this keeps me in the know without missing out. I <3 everything about it!!

Now add the increasing reliance of kids on generative slop machine crap.

Training a generation to not be able to absorb information, not be able to think, not be able to communicate, can't build community = absolute isolation.

The perfect consumer.
This is why education can no longer be about the outcomes, scores, or grades. We need to begin to truly understand education as a partnership that requires both teacher and learner to be engaged in the learning process with an understanding that there is no end. #bfc530
AI is becoming more and more prevalent and it is here to stay … I am annoyed with AI in automated answering … it never seems to know how to help … kids are using it to answer questions so they don’t have to read or do the learning activity … the process of learning can’t be skipped #bfc530
A4 I am a new player of video games (much later in life than normal) and each time I pick up a controller I am reminded of what it means to be a learner. Opportunities to fail are followed by another try. Success means bigger and better things. I ❤️ the journey I am on!

A3 - sometimes beauty is hidden ... the flowers are dormant for a long while and the beauty is fleeting -- how can we continue to nurture and enjoy those hidden moments?

A1 It's smooth sailing on the rise, but the pause builds some tension, and the drop can feel final. Be mindful of each stage and know they are just stages, with more to come!

Which would actually be hilarious (not really, but ... world we live in, right) ... b/c he would probably be one of the most conservative choices...
I saw a demo of an AI tool and was struck by how quickly it turned learning into the old textbook format of teaching. Passage to read, questions to answer, test to take...How are we ensuring this does not become "the way", especially for new teachers overwhelmed by a burdened system?
Listen first. Everyone has a story to share. Some may be hesitant to share, but the more you listen, the more you can engage with their story. #Bfc530
Oh the early morning rise on the East Coast of the US … we are going to to get the #Bfc530 slow chat rolling …

How do you connect with people … students … clients … colleagues?

Writing is an essential part of what makes us who we are. It's a part of our collective humanity.
This is how close we are to hiding people in attics...
and when groups of men such as those in the video approach, form a wall and keep moving. It will take large numbers. It will take fortitude. Some will need to have their phones on and recording the entire incident. Ignore the "authorities". When the numbers are high enough, what can they do...
