You don't fight the evil of MAGA world by gloating over the harm suffered in disasters by people in "red states".
Only light can drive out darkness. Only love can drive out fear and hate.

Is that because Ent is a proper noun? Or because it's specific to Tolkien's fictional work and orc is a more general noun?

Hey @overstreet.bsky.social, I've been listening to your podcast discussion on The Fabelmans and noticed you said there wasn't much to compare between Lynch and Ford, but I think there's actually quite a bit!
See my thread from earlier this year:

A comment on Facebook got me thinking about a comparison between David Lynch, and John Ford. Obviously two very different artists, working in different times and conditions. But I think there's some fascinating points of overlap to consider. 🧵

Now watching WINTER KILLS on the Criterion channel.
Been wanting to see this one for a long time. Don't know if it's good but it has an absolutely murderer's row of acting talent and is shot by Vilmos Zsigmond, so I'm excited.

A ★★★ review of Evil Dead II (1987)
I don't really go for the horror elements in the movie, and it's not especially funny to me, but I do like the Sam Raiminess of it. It's probably the Sam Raimiest movie I've seen.

Bridges and Warner give perfectly modulated performances for this material.
And I think the Wendy Carlos score is actually one of the best film scores of the 1980s.

Watching TRON on my new 4k disc that I paid a small fortune for.
Sorry, folks, I love this movie.
It's got a deeply silly premise, we know that, but the level of craft is extremely high.

On top of everything, It's got to have some of the most incredible photographic special effects in any movie in history.

Man, JWH was a genius. Just rewatched PURSUED not that long ago, which is a western noir that looks absolutely incredible.
Great piece by Walter Chaw here.
