As an attorney with some knowledge of patents, the way it is phrased here is misleading. The patent is for the Let's Go feature used in Scarlet and Violet. It does not relate to the "summoning of a character" and is not similar to the mechanics used in Final Fantasy, Yu-Gi-Oh, or Persona. (1/2)

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company now have a US patent on summoning a character and letting it fight another.

Final Fantasy, Yu-Gi-Oh, Persona, Digimon and many other series use a similar mechanic.

They requested this March 2023 but was granted this summer.
