It will be very difficult but Canada can meet the challenges ahead. Cooperation among various segments of society is essential. A transition to a far more globally focused economy will take time but it's the only path forward. Countries with far fewer resources & people have succeeded. So we can too

Make no mistake, the Trump regime will continue its efforts to ruin our economy in an attempt to make Canada an American vassal state. Democrats aren't as malicious but they are protectionist. Once plants & jobs depart for US, they're gone for good. It's doubtful that CUSMA will remain in place.

As we can't afford to subsidize the auto industry we must make strong efforts to retrain auto workers to extent possible. Investments in new technology & a sustainable innovative economy are essential. It's also very doubtful that the EV battery plants will go into production. It's a huge challenge.

As I've stated before this is another (large) nail in the coffin for Ontario's auto industry. The duplicitous Trump crowd is hell bent on destroying it. In a decade it will be gone

Trump never has any details about his "deals". Nearly all are vague sets of intentions without clear steps or actions or requirements. He prefers this lack of specificity as it enables him to subsequently interpret a "deal" in whatever way he prefers.

Then we ought to address that and increase output of doctors especially those who want to be family physicians. It involves more than places at med schools.

Maybe blame the 43% of voters who did support the Ford regime?

It could hardly go lower.

"Auditor General Shelley Spence said Ford's government spent three times the amount of money on government advertising in the last fiscal year as it did the year before — the highest amount ever. She also found most campaigns were more partisan than informational.

Anyone who thinks that money spent on election campaigns has no impact should read this article. Also, as noted in the piece the Ford regime had the large benefit of running "government ads" at the taxpayers' expense for months prior to last February's election.

A special post from England. This Long Eared Owl was photographed from 10 metres away in Northumberland by my spouse's cousin who is quite an accomplished bird photographer. He lives in Newcastle.

A few years ago I had booked a direct flight Toronto to London, UK. On board just before takeoff the captain announced that we'd be stopping in Montreal because AC cancelled a direct Montreal to London flight due to too few passengers. Naturally we got to Heathrow late & I missed my connection.

Ontario's farmland is a precious resource that is vital to protect.

This #OntarioAgricultureWeek I'm feeling thankful for the land that feeds us and the farmers that steward it while growing our food.

While he was referring to the waterfront in Kingston, Jamaica, @brenttoderian.bsky.social's comment applies to many cities and their challenges in Canada: "The cost of inaction is greater than the cost of transformation. You can't afford not to act."

NEW: “The cost of inaction is greater than the cost of transformation,” Toderian said. “You can’t afford not to act.”

This article does a pretty good job capturing the energy, urgency, and (some of the many) ideas in my very blunt “Call To Action” this week in Kingston, Jamaica. Follow-thru is key!

Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.
