The alt. race that'd make sense for Rae would be to still be half-elf, half-drow, but he'd inherit his mother's genes. Looks the same, but more silver-coded.
My choice would be tiefling, as it's my 2nd favourite race. More golden, split tail from a fight, horns decorated. A menace.
