O Come O Come Emmanuel. I prefer Advent songs. Honorable mention to Come My Way.
Secular: 2000 Miles.
But Christmas (Baby…) slaps too.
Actually, all four are Advent songs.
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.

I’m not crying but if Hegseth and the other handwringers want to know what real masculinity looks like, it looks like this comic. If they want to know what makes a man attractiv to women, it’s this.

Okay, I've fleshed out this initial timeline w/ bibliographical citations & a few more pertinent details on how & when our current knowledge about the 12thC medic Trota of Salerno was recovered. You can find it here: doi.org/10.17613/emm... #histmed #MedievalSky
Timeline of the "Recovery" of Trota of Salerno
On November 18, 19, and 20, 2025, what turned out to be a lively thread on the social media platform, Bluesky, raised some questions about when and how the historicity of the 12th-century female medic...

Medical expertise of a medieval woman: Trotula Identified!
Oh wow! This is what happens when you're photographing MSS & don't capture the text in the inner gutter. 1st, here's the photograph (made about 100 yrs ago) of the Codex Salernitanus, f. 82ra. Although that big tear of the page is obvious, the inner gutter hasn't been fully captured in the photo.

I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

The only way to stop this is to delete your Academia account. “Opting out” only stops you from seeing ai slop; other people will still be offered the ai slop they make from your work.
What the French-fried fuckity fuck?

I emphatically did not opt IN to this and now I have to log in and opt OUT?

When you’ve already done a thing I not only disapprove of, but that also makes literally no sense?

You can’t turn my old paper into an analogy. That’s not how papers or analogies work

And consent for seizing Venezuelan resources, and distracting Americans from hungry kids, deportations of working parents, and rising costs for everyone.
Someone should tell them how the Iraq war ended up.
The media is about to blitz us with stories about how awful Maduro is and I want you to remember that even if they're all true, they are being issued solely for the purpose of manufacturing consent for invading Venezuela and killing innocent people.

My article is in the new issue of the Jrnl of Medieval Iberian Studies. Its aims are two-fold: 1) show how this text leveraged ethnic and religious IDs to construct a local, city ID, and 2) challenge historians to *show* local ID mattered, not just assume it did. tinyurl.com/5e5arv2e #medievalsky
Local identity in the Lives of the Fathers of Mérida: when ethnicity and religion aren’t the point
While scholarship on early medieval Europe often centers ethnicity or religion over other forms of identity, they were not always the most relevant form of identification for contemporaries. In the...
