I was thinking recently about how farcille is kind of “first two girls onscreen” both literally and especially in fandom execution because someone had asked why it’s so popular. Fandom doesn’t know how to process ships other than as first two girls onscreen and that’s why they’re drawn like that.

like, in general it comes up a lot, being like "oh i love this female character TOO MUCH to want to put her through the same things as these male characters, i can't ship her with this guy because she deserves better, she's too good for all of this" and then just never talk about her at all

i don't think this is even necessarily always *dishonest* but i don't think it's good. they're all fake, putting certain characters on a pedestal as "too good" to be explored in the modes of fanwork that people are actually interested in is still refusing to actually engage with them
