From chess beginner to 2000 in just 2 years? Sounds impossible.

But Kamryn Hellman did it.

In this thoughtful guest post, the author and streamer shares the insights and practical lessons that made it happen.

My dear colleague Sophia wrote an inspiring piece about IM Andras Toth for the @chessable.com blog.

A must-read for #chesspunks and everyone who needs a reminder that finding your calling sometimes takes unexpected turns.

It was loud and there was trash-talking. Was it a friendly environment for a teenager? Maybe not but it felt safe going with my dad.

As someone who enjoyed the vibrant community and fun blitz sessions, the new @chessable.com guest blog post was particularly interesting to me.

It's not uncommon for big cities to have a park with chess tables, where hustlers and experts gather to play with chess enthusiasts and by-passers.

In my hometown of Lima, Peru, we had two such places and growing up, I would go there to practice with stronger players.

I have analyzed many of Vera Menchik’s games for Queens of the Chess Board, my first @chessable.com course, and can tell you she was a fine positional player whose games can teach us quite a lot about piece placement!

Can you recognize Vera and Alekhine in this pic?
