Horrible. Solidarity. We went through this last year and it was awful but I was heartened by the care of our staff.

Diana Wynne Jones wrote a great piece about her writing of Fire and Hemlock which can be found in the edited collection of her writings Reflections. She relates it to her ideas about heroism and discusses Its structural qualities

I hope that this special issue will do justice to Aidan's enormous contribution to the field. He was a true innovator. If you are interested in doing work on his archive do feel free to get in touch - I am happy to advise on what is there and how to access it!

Excited to see submissions for this special issue of Children's Literature in Education, which I am editing with Hazel Sheeky-Bird! Our work on the Aidan and Nancy Chambers archive (held at Seven Stories in the UK) highlighted how important they both were to children's lit #kidlit #aidanchambers

For reasons, it would be v. helpful to have information from a broad range of academic and non-academic (incl. GLAM) users of the BBC Written Archives OTHER THAN historians, briefly on: 1) What you've used it for and 2) How the proposed changes would impact on your research.

Reposts welcomed.

Luckily for me I’m not a nervous flyer but that flight really tested my nerves. fairly sure some of the other passengers will never fly again!
lrpearson.bsky.social
In retrospect I was mad to board but naively I assumed that a flight wouldn’t run unless it was safe for it to do so.

I’ll never fly Ryanair again. The experience of making multiple attempts to land while people vomited, passed out and called for help from terrified few who couldn’t safely leave their seats demonstrated how little they care about crew or passenger safety.

The description of the attempts to land here are almost exactly what happened on my Ryanair flight in Storm Éowyn. Ryanair were the only airline who ran flights from Dublin at that time. I wonder how much fuel was left when my Newcastle flight landed in Stansted? www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Yes! They are so reluctant to do so and it makes so much difference.

You feel invested in their work / problem and derive pleasure from solving the query. This must go two ways. I'd love to run an experiment of just taking as much as possible back to in person interactions and seeing how it affected staff and student wellbeing.

Thinking a lot today about how the digital works to increase stress and alienation in HE. So often we receive emails from e.g. a student we've never met and it just feels like another item on the to do list. If you actually see someone in person the same query takes on a social quality

Yes. Just an 'ordinary girl', you might meet her anywhere!

I wonder if for that period it just felt like a very likely ‘neutral’ name. I’ve noticed ‘Will’ is an extremely common children‘s book name too and surmise it’s for same reason

Look around parks - who is missing?

Teenage girls are systemically designed out of parks and public spaces. We campaign to design them in.

It’s just 5 days to go until the Big Give campaign starts.
Donate to Make Space for Girls between 8-15 October and every donation is doubled.

Also, it's one of the few movies I've seen recently that's made me keep thinking about it two days later.

You never feel the same level of threat when with Leonardo di Caprio's character as when you're with his daughter. Because that's the difference between being a white man and being a mixed race girl. I still feel a bit mixed about how it handled race and gender but this aspect really worked for me.

Saw One Battle After Another the other night and I think one of the things I enjoyed is that the combination of stoner comedy and big concept movie is actually quite intentional. The white men in this movie are literally in a different genre to everyone else.
