Att människor kan ändra sig gör det inte okej att gå fram och be folk prata om deras övergrepp efter att de har sagt de vill inte.

Om någon som har utsatts för en övergrepp har sagt offentligt att de vill inte prata om det och att de tar illa av att journalister frågar om det, skulle du ställa frågan?

Men hon har redan sagt att hon ville inte prata om det. Och har sagt att frågor om detta uppfattas som en del av mediernas felaktiga bevakning. Därför om en journalist går fram och ställer frågan igen handlar det inte om att samla vittnesmål utan det ska ses som ansvarstagande intervju.

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.

Well – no. Bluesky may or may not be, as one centre-right friend who felt unwelcome put it, “self-righteous island”. But the idea that’s why we went is nonsense. That I’ve largely stopped posting on a site that’s done more to shape my career and social circle than the rest of the internet combined is less about avoiding rival opinions (I love arguing with people who are wrong!) than with the fact the site simply became unusable. It stopped generating the things (good jokes, interesting debate, clicks) I wanted; it became extremely good at generating the things (racists, pornbots, racist pornbots) I did not.

Lite på samma sätt som jag ser hur psykiskt patienter och vårdarberare kan bli ledsen på varandra istället för att tänka på vem det är som egentligen minskar resurserna. Och jag hoppas alla vi kan kroka arm för att kämpa för mer utrymme och mer resurser istället för att slåss som katter i en säck.

Jag hoppas att journalister, aktivister och andra kan hitta sätt att organisera med varandra emot makten istället för att uppfatta varandra som problemet.

Jag tror att alla vi är oerhört trötta, stressade och rädda efter decennier av åtstramningar, krig och folkmord. Nu här i diskussionen ser jag hur man riskerar se varandra som problemet och slösar våra tid och energi med att hacka på varandra. Det är förståeligt eftersom vi sitter i samma rum och

It's interesting how it became very enthusiastic about New Labour in the 1990s. I guess authoritarianism and neoliberalism describe the Blair nexus fairly well.

(Also I wonder if Albert had a specific beef with some specific Fabians of the time)

Yes it's a bit of a stretch. I mean the question of whether this is 'just how human society works', as Foucault would say, or the view grounded in Gramsci and Laclau and Mouffe that this struggle is based in control of capital and hence of discourse.

There are so many Diane Keaton performances to remember, but a lot of people haven't seen Reds, and A) my God, see it, it is a masterpiece and B) her performance as Louise Bryant is one of the bravest, toughest, least sympathy-courting pieces of work by an American actress in the last 50 years.
