My stomach has mostly been okay this whole trip despite intermittent stress and the one time I had pork. Now that we're back in Canada waiting for a bus back to our city (which will take 2ish hours and has no washroom probably) my stomach is acting up.

Good timing, Crohn's.

Back in Canada waiting for a connection and I already miss Japanese bathrooms because every single one I used had indicators for whether a stall was occupied or not.

Idk that just seems like very basic food bathroom design.

Leaving Japan imminently. Bittersweet. I miss our cats and reliable access to food I can eat (I love Japanese food, but the prevalence of pork alone is like playing minesweeper sometimes). I also do need some time to rest. But I'm hoping to resume streaming this week and talk about the trip a bit.

First, many SNAP recipients have jobs. They’re just living below the poverty line because of tremendous wealth inequality.

Second, many are disabled and children and can’t work.

Third, no one should starve to death.

The likelihood of dying by bomb or drone is lower now. But materially... not much else has changed. Hardly any jobs. Very few habitable buildings left. Disease rampant and treatment scarce. And a hard winter ahead.

People who want to live but need care are so easily seen by many as disposable.

I have a lot to say about this topic, but it's something I need more time and mental energy to discuss carefully in a way this topic deserves. But I will say that no one deserves to be offered MAiD unrequested.

Anyway there have definitely been some hiccups like getting lost on our first day in Tokyo, getting stranded in Hakone briefly, and struggling to find protein that I can eat (which seems easier now that we're out of Tokyo), but overall it's been good! I'm just very tired every night lol

And I find many (locals and foreigners) don't always move or adjust for disabled and elderly folks. Some do, such as a local woman in Tokyo who gave me her seat on the subway, but not everyone. Most people seem pretty focused on getting to their next stop.

Accessibility-wise the hotel we're in seems way more accessible than places even in Canada, such as having a floor selection panel in elevators that runs horizontally along the side of the elevator rather than vertically at the front. That said not everything is fully accessible.

Trying to be a mindful tourist because so many white folks and others here are not and I don't want to add to it. Obviously mistakes happen and there will always be misunderstandings! But I'm a guest here and I want to be respectful.

Over the half way point in our Japan trip. Honestly it's been amazing seeing so many temples, shrines, and different landscapes. I'm really finding that, in general, the big cities/city cores especially are not my thing. Which I expected since crowds are overwhelming to me even back home.

We were told by our agent we could purchase lunch but I think for groups that's an ahead of time thing. There's a nice little shop at the restaurant with snacks though and a cake place nearby.

It's just frustrating because my spouse was left out too.

For example, we just did half of a walking tour up steps and steep hills and neither my spouse nor I have a meal set like the others because I guess they opted to not include a meal instead of finding an alternative??
