what is it about this generation that prevents them from sincerely enjoying things without qualifying that they're also not good
"How To Write One Song" by Jeff Tweedy is an absolute delight of a book to read, and just beautifully expresses how to be creative in *any* way, but particularly songwriting.

There's no music theory or heady technique. Just great stories and good vibes.

someone asked me how i write lyrics so i wrote out my whole process, enjoy

also i have a book recommendation, my absolute favorite book on songwriting ⬇️
My process is basically:

Write a melody (but expect to change it slightly once I write lyrics)
Figure out conceptually what each section of the song (verse, chorus, etc) is going to say overall
Drop the entire concept of the song, along with copy and pasting the wiki page of whatever character i'm writing about, into ChatGPT and ask it to make a word bank of 60 words related to the character
Look through the words for one that feels good (rhythmically, emotionally, etc) and start putting it in sentences
Now go back to my melody and feel out how the natural speaking rhythm of the word (think about which syllable the emphasis falls on) fits into the rhythm of the melody and start working outward from where I fit the word in
Once I get one line, repeat with the surrounding lines (in any order, sometimes i write a verse from the end working backward to the start, sometimes from the middle out) until I have a whole section
Use Rhymezone's "Near Rhymes" and "Synonyms" pages to find rhymes, particularly ones with specific stress patterns (use the xx/, /x, etc buttons at the bottom of the synonyms page to filter by stress pattern, where / indicates a stresed syllable)
Repeat until you finish the song

It's really easy to write lyrics once you narrow the word choices down to only words that are:
relevant to the topic
rhyme
fit the rhythm of the melody you're writing
There hasn't been any for a bit, but following them on here is as good as anywhere.
I have three more episodes written, two of which are recorded, and I just need to finish animating them but it has been BUSY
the other sample i put in everything
I read this as “keep your local theatre rep alive” and was like wait what’s gonna happen to them
keep your local rep theatre alive!!
You know who’s suddenly flocking to old movies in Chicago? Young audiences. More from @mrmichaelphillips.bsky.social
