In the wild, birds live in diverse communities. But as humans alter the environment these communities start to change.

Scientists have found that we are reducing the ability for nature to absorb these shocks at an ever quicker pace.

"Assuming that student teaching evaluations remain in place as teaching assessments in the immediate term, they could be relabelled ‘student satisfaction surveys’ to better reflect their nature."

I also mention how TMU doesn't allow student evals for *T&P purposes*

In this commentary, I argue that student-based teaching evaluations are problematic bc

✳️ systematic biases (e.g., racism, sexism)
✳️ poor construct validity
✳️ undermine standards and learning

We should evaluate teaching as seriously as we do research. Or don't do teaching evaluations.
It is time to abandon student evaluations of teaching
