Great thread on multi-camera TV.

I think partly this is down to the absolute obsession with realism, often to the exclusion of all other forms of expression. Anything even slightly heightened or, god forbid, theatrical is seen as dated.

The multi-camera drama has disappeared forever: an entire medium, an entire *form of art*, has just gone. Thirty years ago. Unheralded, unnoticed. It’s like the novel disappearing. Or watercolours vanishing. It was cultural vandalism, by oversight. 19/

Multi-camera drama is, I think, the best form of screen production. It allows performances to come through because actors can play out scenes in full, deriving the full depth of their situation from their interaction. 20/
