Um, hi, I like to talk & eat. Your nosy internet tía. Geriatric Millenial Lamb. A Mariah biracial, not a Drake biracial. Cultured NJ pizza afficionado.

Omg at "Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, “I think you’re in my seat.” The woman got up. Madonna sat down and told him, “I’d like to know what you’re thinking.” To which D replied, “I’m thinking you’re rude.”

D'Angelo speaking out about the physical and emotional burden of maintaining a nearly unobtainable physique and sexy image as a Black male artist should be taught in labor studies. It absolutely impacted how I analyze pop culture.

Black folks in NYC were definitely catching strays because of all the increased surveillance that we still experience today

the post 9/11 that included an expanded Stop-And-Frisk under Bloomberg?

So a couple people have now hinted at the idea that Black people didn’t have it so bad post-9/11 because Muslims had it bad. This ignores that there were and are a lot of Black Muslims. This also ignores that more than one group of people can be targeted for state violence. It’s never just one group

This is such a facile claim right on its surface when we consider the vicious murder of Balbir Singh Sodhi on September 15th, 2001 as “revenge” for 9/11 despite him not being an Arab Muslim but a Punjabi-American Sikh and immigrant.

It was literally not just Muslims being punished *for* 9/11

Black people can be Black and only Black.

The way that our full identities are dismissed is exhausting. You see it when people try to separate Black ppl from the LGBTQIA+ community. Or when it’s time to discuss ICE. Everyone understands intersectionality until it comes to us.

I wonder what people don't become conservative as they age. Hmmmm.....
trruhnke.bsky.social
They say one is supposed to get more conservative as they age. This seems at least anecdotally true. The opposite is true for me, or at least I think I better understand why I believe the things I believe. There are a lot of haughty, self-satisfied people online.

*deep sigh*
Racism does not begin or end at using the n word.
amandamarcotte.bsky.social
So when I say that when I was a young Republican, I didn't realize it was inherently racist, okay, disbelieve me. Pretend I used the n-word or whatever. I didn't, but whatever you need to feel superior.

But remember: when your rule is "born perfect or GTFO," you are limiting your coalition.

This makes me think of the struggles Luther Vandross, who passed at 54. So many yo-yo diets, so much speculation about his sexuality, and told he was too black and too fat.

I didn't know that. Paterson NJ was known as Silk City because they were manufacturing almost half of the US' silk. They had the Great Falls to power the factories. We lived nearby for a time, the falls are actually a national historic site. !Las Cataratas!

Northeastern industry made a big move to industrialized (and non-unionized) textile production in the South in the late 19th and early 20th century and I think for some people that's what they mentally associate with US textile and garment production--primarily white Southern millworkers.
