Paypal is now playing harder ball on artists, going after anyone even mentioning commissions.

Artists, send invoices. That way, no one has to say what the money is for on Paypal's paper trail.

Customers, SAY NOTHING about commissions. Just say "thanks" on donos.

Everyone: INCREASE THE CALLS.

It feels scummy to say "a child offender" in this headline when what they actually mean is a child was arrested then executed.

Wikipedia is worth $10/month because if it dies so does reliable knowledge. Cough up if you can -- it's cheaper, more interesting and morally superior to Netflix.
wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...
Wikipedia Says AI Is Causing a Dangerous Decline in Human Visitors
“With fewer visits to Wikipedia, fewer volunteers may grow and enrich the content, and fewer individual donors may support this work.”

Can't believe we've let a few companies collect most of the world's capital and then also let them repeat the conditions for the great depression (IE an evil circle of debt and investment-with-no-return)
Here’s part 2 of our four part Better Offline case against generative AI. I walk you through how NVIDIA funds debt-ridden “neoclouds” all to create vehicles to buy more GPUs - all to cover up the lack of demand for generative AI compute.

1.) I do not have money like that
2.) I am disabled, which severely impacts which countries would even accept me

In other words unless a company is sponsoring me to move & paying for all of my stuff, it's just not gonna happen.
I'm realizing a grim exercise/prompt may be in this ...

If others want to share, I'm curious:

Why aren't *you* leaving america (yet)?

Asking for trans folks in particular, especially those of us on HRT and/or other very directly threatened in terms of our healthcare ...

Reposts welcomed. Sigh.
If i were 22, I'd maybe just bail on america. I'm 38 is the problem and I love my life here. My house, my gardens, my dogs. This is where I built my adult existence ...

if you are German, you really need to yell and scream at your MEPs about chat control! Germany has been flip flopping on chat control constantly. Their vote carries an enormous amount of weight on this issue!

we can win this, but we need to make our voices heard! contact your representatives!
IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Denmark has scheduled a vote on Chat Control the 14th of October. Despite not wanting to break end-to-end encryption, 🇩🇪 Germany remains both UNDECIDED and critical to defeating the proposal.

If you are German, contact your Bundestag members today via fightchatcontrol.de !

Note again that the CRs don’t have anti-lgbtq provisions, those are in the main appropriations bills which the CRs are meant to buy time for negotiating over.

Punchbowl is reporting some of the approps bills may be targeted for passage as “minibus” bills.

Minibus talks nearing end but need leadership decisions
Appropriators are nearing the end of negotiations on a package of three funding bills, a hopeful sign of some bipartisan progress even as the government shutdown grinds on.

Democrats are holding strong on the shutdown, which means that this will likely go into next week. This is showing signs of being a very protracted shutdown.

Nobody wants to vote for the “clean CR” without the ACA protections and protections against Trump’s rescissions.
Same switches as the previous 3 Senate filibuster votes:
Cortez Masto D-NV, Fetterman D-PA, and King I-ME voted for the House-passed CR.

Rand Paul R-KY voted with the Democrats.

2 Senators missed the vote: Coons D-DE and Moran R-KS.

Next vote expected on Monday.

When youre writing letters or making phone calls to paypros/reps, its worth remembering that you dont have to stick to 1 style of formatting the info.

You dont gave to write a proper letter with an opening argument, main body and conclusion. You can write a numbered list or bullet points. Its fine!
Is it ok if when i write my letters i just write the talking points verbatim? I tried writing my own stuff in my own words but i got stuck and couldnt find the words... i can try again another day hoping itll be different but maybe its best to only do the bare minimum so i can mail them ASAP ?

90% of the reports I see foreground GOP excuses for shutting down a government *it* runs. Dem replies appear late in reports and are brief. There's no correction to GOP lies. Or context—like Trump aiming to stop an Epstein Files vote and fire more public servants.

Shutdown coverage is a trash fire.

J.D. Vance is now on TV saying you can tell who is illegal in America by looking at them.

Caroline Leavitt is saying that if Dems agreed to a continuing resolution six months ago—which they did *to give Republicans six months to fix the healthcare horrors they created*—they should agree again. Huh?

GOP lies are coming fast now. They didn't have a clean funding bill; they refused to keep government open unless $90 million in our cash was released for *their* security details. Dems said no, we're not putting ourselves first, we're putting the working class's healthcare—which Trump trashed—first.

Shutdown is on. Only 3 Democrats voted for the clean CR, which means we are now officially heading for a government shutdown.
55-45, Senate GOP short-term funding bill FAILS.

52 Republicans + Fetterman (D-Pa.), Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), and King (I-Maine) vote YES.

44 Democrats + Paul (R-Ky.) vote NO.

It needed 60 votes to pass.

Shutdown hits at midnight.
