I mean when they’ve been a bad boy while you’ve been away, but they give you those eyes when you walk in the door, how can you not forgive them.

I see a fresh round of “amazing technological discoveries found in ancient Roman concrete” articles is circulating. Feels like it’s been less than 4 years and I thought that was the cycle for these stories.

I used to work at the Weisman and a guy I knew used to have to go up in a lift once a year and scrub the entire exterior of the building with oven cleaner

(I believe he told me they found a better way after I left)
MPR re-aired an interview with Frank Gehry at the opening of his (pre-Bilbao) Weisman Art Museum at the Univ of MN East Bank campus in SE Minneapolis in 1993.

Gehry recalled stopping at the site while taking his son to hockey camp in Brainerd & deciding a less shiny steel cladding wasn't shiny enuf

The AIA: Th Dept. of Ed. wants to basically take away the M. Arch.that keeps you in school for 7 years, this is a disgrace!

Also the AIA: Check out this person who set the record for youngest licensed architect at 22, this is so cool!

Takeaway from WaPo article on new ballroom arch is that admin was always looking for fast track delivery, which arch 1 was incapable of, so arch 2 was hired for that experience w/ DC fed bldgs. Change was made weeks ago & fast track const continues below grade. No, reviews, etc have happened.

I just think this is mostly (entirely?) about the AIA having hurt feelings about not being considered "professional" – and that's because they've done nothing to address affordability...ever.

Rep. Cuellar (D-TX), has received thousands of dollars in contributions from @aiaofficial.bsky.social’s ArchiPAC over the years. Looks like he’ll be spared from spending time in one of the for-profit prisons he also accepts 💰 from.

Congrats, Hank. You seem like a real gem.

Someday someone will make movie about FFC making this film, release it in November on limited screens, make a small profit, and get an Oscar.

The same firms that model a bldg 2x or more in multiple platforms will be the ones who redo most of their AI-generated documentation in the future so it aligns w/ their pedantic gRAphIc sTanDaRdS fixations.
The thing that could ultimately implode AI is training it on architectural graphic standards, and introducing it to all the petty debates over the “right” way to represent symbols, annotate and arrange drawing sheets, etc.

Interesting to think about the obvs bad clickbait AI house floor plan in terms of learning from the work of architecture professionals when it comes to things that only a small percentage of them understand/do well, and how the percentage drops further for residential work…
