Another category here is when a CM comes back from the pause and wants to fundamentally alter the core/shell construction, while insisting the changes are minor and highly localized.

Question maybe depends heavily on bldg type and how dynamic the program is, i.e. the retailer whose sales floor designs have a 10-15 month half-life, or the office user whose staffing needs evolve yearly or whatever.

…it is really shocking how there is almost no culture of walking to things here compared to a lot of MSP’s peer cities. Whether people here drive, bike, or take transit, almost everyone seems to consider it a major inconvenience to have to walk more than two blocks on either end.

I wish he could expound upon the wicker baskets for the Chianti bottles a bit more. That’s a critical piece of the development puzzle for me.

there are modernist interpolations of the cross, and then there are modernist interpolations of the cross 😍
A faceted metal panel abstraction of the Christian cross stops bell tower.

Incredible reprint of the fabled 10 issues btw, I love it!

superstudio making me hungry w/ this packaging
The outer box for the newly released ARCHIGRAM facsimile looks like a pizza box in this photo where I scribbled out “MAGAZINE” and wrote in PIZZA so it says “ARCHIGRAM THE PIZZA”

…walked the line, and fell over. In conclusion, housing posters, please STFU about fire prevention, code updates, etc. Go take it out on the core metrics of the MFH pro forma…or better yet, get on board w/ not-for-profit forms of housing development, you evil nerds.
lilboolean.bsky.social
…if they weren’t, it’s because the pro forma was marginal to begin w/, (NOT cuz of sprinklers or whatever). This happens when the RE guy (always the dudes) gets so hung up on making a deal that he plays himself w/ the numbers. This is 1 way that finished bldgs end up trading at a loss — they…

…I’ve had small projects tip over the line of needing fire sprinklers for 1 reason or another, which does represent a significant cost addition to a 6-digit project, but even then, there’s always a way to fit them in cuz the baseline metrics are strong enough to support it, and…

…Now, the real estate members of the dev team love to misunderstand the design and const members, and LOVE to point to what they think is an expensive deal killer, but it doesn’t mean that it’s true. You see, these folks are spazes & this is what they do due to paranoia over deals falling apart…

To wrap up NFPA Fire Prevention Week, I will point out that mostly nothing stops real estate development for any given bldg type EXCEPT the baseline pro forma metric(s) for that type. In 30yrs of architecting (last 9 in dev) I’ve never had fire prevention measures/equip be one of those metrics…

Great article on Autodesk's ongoing EULA fuckery!

aecmag.com/business/con...
Excerpt from AEC Magazine article reads: "I know many of the more progressive AEC firms that attend our NXT BLD event are training their own in-house Al based on their Revit models, Revit derived DWGs and PDFs. With no caveats or carve outs for customers, they potentially now have the Sword of Damocles hanging over their data. As worded, the broad use of the word 'output' could theoretically even apply to an Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) file exported from Revit, as it's an output from Autodesk's product stack, which could mean you are not even allowed to train Al on an open standard!
Legally, the company has not taken your intellectual property; instead, it may have ring-fenced its permitted uses, in a very specific way. This creates what I'd characterise as a "legal DRM moat" around customer data."

so easy to use, even an engineer could do it lmao
Excerpt from VisiWord sales sheet says: “• EASY TO LEARN & USE
You already know Word, so learning VisiWord only takes a few hours. It's easy to use even for engineers who only write specs 1-2 times annually.” I’ve highlighted “even for engineers”.

i think this just how you have to talk if you work for them, even the non-marketing folks are doing it

quote from the cheeba hut cdo on the supposedly imminent opening of the lake street store
Excerpt from QSR article reads: “"The Mini-Apple has always had that perfect mix of music, art and energy that we vibe with," said Chief Development Officer Seth Larsen. "This store has been in limbo for far too long, but the team is pumped to finally spark it up with killer food, a cool bar scene and plenty of late-night fuel for one of the most passionate fanbases we've ever seen."” The Steve Buschemi skater “How do you do, fellow kids?” meme

5/ Jazz’s 2nds & 3rds: more to Fateh than Frey, which belies my
SW Mpls observation that “Jazz votes are a gateway drug for Frey votes.” The RCV campaigning is working! Fewer but not none to Davis, far fewer undecideds than Frey voters had. You can see “never Fateh“ voters in the Davis rankings.
Jazz’s 2nds & 3rds: more to Fateh than Frey, fewer but not none to Davis, fewer undecided than Frey 1st choices.
lilboolean.bsky.social
why are they ranking frey 4th in a city where rcv allows 3 choices is what i’m saying

that’s just weird
lilboolean.bsky.social
uh…4 choices? this has gotta be some kind of code that starbucks republicans use to indicate they’re actually ranking frey
lilboolean.bsky.social
When is enough enough? Is a hell of a question to be asking about fire protection measures. Housing posters are so fucking weird. But hey, those are the thoughts that get the likes amirite 🥴

“You hear these complaints from
devs — these are real problems”

Yeah, well that dev is just as ignorant as you, except they’re making lots of money and looking to you to help them make more for free via deregulation propaganda.

…Nor have they ever heard explanations abt revs/read reasons in ICC’s commentary. Not that they possess the necessary bldg science knowledge necessary to process that information. Not surprising to see these folks take solid data & so often arrive at wild conclusions in that context, I guess.
