Alert: The USDA has detected H5 bird flu in a bobcat in Marion County, Oregon.

Top predators are now contracting a virus designed for birds.

Every mammal infection is a dangerous rehearsal for a strain that could spread without birds at all.

When will we take #ClimateBreakdown seriously? The average high for my city is 45 degrees and we are having 60 degrees, low is that 20 degrees and having 32 degrees. When will we start making changes? Heat will soon be the leading killer of all species.

Had the local college cross country team come upon me, they slowed a little, and I speeded up to a good race pace. We chatted for about half a mile and then split. Really cheared me up. #runchat
#RunChat Q4: What’s an item you’ve spotted on a run that felt like it was sending you a message? Something motivational, weird, or hilarious?

Cheap stretch gloves I'll keep. Anything else I move to a more visible spot. Haven't found anything with significant value, but I'd take a picture and post in the local Facebook trail group. #runchat
#RunChat Q3: What do you do when you find something like a dropped glove, hat, or key on the trail — leave it, move it, or go into detective mode?

Always love seeing horses. This time of year there is few trees, along a bike path, that get decorated with ornaments. If I see anything cool I take one. They completely change ornaments each year. #runchat
#RunChat Q2: What’s a “runner’s treasure” you love that you've found on the run — a new trail, a quiet street, a perfect background, etc.?

Nothing that jumps to mind. Do remember seeing a herd of deer and another time someone driving slow alerted me to a buck deer maybe 50 feet away. #runchat
#RunChat Q1: What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve ever discovered on a run? Did it make you speed up or slow down?

Ever since I learned about how Europe taxes vehicles to encourage smaller vehicles I wish the US had similar taxes. But all these European regulations and tests are way cool too. #vehiclesafety

I've started running again. First time since May I've felt injury free and first time running in over 2 months, a few test runs. Today the muscles are all telling me it was good. Gonna run again today. So good to be able to run with dogs again. #runchat

The knees. Never had a problem with them and I've played many sports. #runchat
#RunChat Q6: What’s the biggest injury-related myth you’ve heard in the running community?
November 24, 2025 at 4:48 PM
Does walking and hiking count? I do those regardless of injury. #runchat
#RunChat Q5: What’s a cross-training activity you like to do when you’re sidelined with an injury?
November 24, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Definitely foot shaped minimalist footwear. My favorite, even in winter with snow, is Luna Sandals.
Modern over cushioned shoes were invented in the 1970s and now everyone is either injured or knows an injured runner. Currently, one of super shoe companies is being sued for injury. #runchat
#RunChat Q4: What's a shoe (or shoe change) that you feel helped reduce or prevent an injury for you?
November 24, 2025 at 4:42 PM
Walking/hiking and lots of it. If you can't run at least stay in shape. #runchat
#RunChat Q3: What’s an effective rehab exercise or stretch that you’ve used for a running injury?
November 24, 2025 at 4:38 PM
Hard to explain, but if you've done enough runs you get to know every muscle in your body and when they are not doing okay. The hard part is distinguishing between fatitigue and injury. If it doesn't clear up in couple days that's definitely concerning. #runchat
#RunChat Q2: What’s one early-warning sign of an injury that you wish you hadn’t ignored?
November 24, 2025 at 4:37 PM
Can't remember my last running injury and certainly nothing since I've been wearing minimalist and barefoot footwear. #runchat
Hey #RunChat friends! This week we're going to talk about injuries.

Q1: What running injury took you the longest to recover from? What finally helped you turn the corner?

Casio G-shock with solar charging and automatic time setting. Then a notebook to record runs. One is these years I'll streak the year or actually run the entire year and set a time record that I can beat a few years in a row. #runchat
