Crude, derogatory, misogynistic comments have no place in society, let alone at a Magic event. Construing this ban as a persecution of political belief and a 1A violation is a stupefying level of bad-faith.

@cardtitan.bsky.social did the right thing. When people show you who they are, believe them.

Whether performers turn an individual profit or not is irrelevant to the point. The opera itself does not turn a profit from its operating revenue (ticket sales) against its costs (faculty, performers, space maintenance, etc.). We fund it to offset that imbalance, because we receive art in exchange.

Individuals being paid for their labor is not economic profit.

We (society) provide funding for services that we collectively agree are desirable enough to merit communal support. That funding is then given to the service as a subsidy to ensure that the cost of access stays (relatively) cheap.
