Many thanks, Peter. I’m really glad research on Roman women is firmly in the spotlight!

Multas gratias to my dear friends and colleagues who generously read drafts, to Harriet Flower and Josiah Osgood for their editorial encouragement and feedback, to Amy Richlin, Amy Russell, and Kathryn Welch for inspiring the study, and to my Doktormutter Ida Östenberg for her constant support.

I am deeply honoured that the American Journal of Philology awarded my article 'Spectatissima femina: Female visibility and religion in urban spaces in Republican Rome' the AJP Best Article Prize for 2024.

I work on Roman drama, in which female speech is often characterized by terms of endearment and diminutives. So you might want to look at gendered speech too.

I can envision caps, t-shirts, mugs…

This thanks to @lewismarkwebb.bsky.social who demonstrated that drunk women just love fomenting conspiracies!

Just learned the lovely words MULTIBIBA - a female great drinker, and MEROBIBA -female drinker of unmixed wine, both from Plautus. I feel seen.

To this list of dramatic drinking terms should be added COMPOTRIX, a female drinking companion (Ter. Andr. 232). A key member of any good party (or conspiracy!). #AncientBlueSky #ClassicsBlueSky

Thank you! As part of the fellowship, i will stay at SCAS for a year in Uppsala, which will enable me to share and challenge my ideas with scholars in other fields. I am very much looking forward to it.

My focus will be on religious inscriptions, drama (e.g., comedies, tragedies, and historical plays), and historical narratives. I am fundamentally interested in whether, and how, religious activity affects people's capacity to cope during crises.

My research project is entitled ‘Enduring Uncertain Futures: Constant Crisis, Religious Coping Practices, and Social Resilience in Roman Republican Italy.’
Drawing on anthropology and psychology, I will examine the dynamics of religious crisis management in ancient Italian communities.
