Its not even about if radio is superior to streaming or whatever, but just that they are owned by people, that for better or worse, make money from full venues, booked sets, and people listening to music rather than by people who make money from building bombs or hiking prescription costs

We owe so much culture to UK based independent/pirate radio and it really bums me out that it's impossible to make it work here realistically. No reason it shouldn't outside of dumb laws and market monopolies

There's more stuff filmed in London than ever and yet the UK has marginal cultural influence because the ruling classes decided that supporting culture is bad, woke, etc and it should all just go to rent

Basically the only arena where they're still sticking around is music, and thats honestly accidental, they just haven't stripped the venue/festival/radio ecosystem for parts yet.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

Immigration agents have the authority to detain whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino.

Agents also can arrest citizens who allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers. We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers.

Among the citizens detained are nearly 20 children, including two with cancer.

I get being strategically critical of mass protests & marches that are turned out through the internet with no real leadership hierarchy or discipline, considering the last 15 years. But the mood in the crowd is consistently more radical than it's critics give it credit for

Idk where this idea that the no kings protests are just normie libs came from. At the one I went to easily the chants with the most play were anti-ICE, anti-israel and anti-imperialist chants. This is a military town!

California hasnt had to issue an emergency plea for public power conservation since 2022, due to a >30x surge in battery storage in past 5 yrs. Contrary to certain ignorant naysayers, batteries keep the grid running even when solar power sources are temp interrupted.
