The bird gallery at @mfnberlin.bsky.social is closed for redevelopment, but instead of packing away their #birds, they crated up 11,500 #taxidermy specimens and put the crates on display instead. It's a really interesting - and beautiful - approach to open storage. #museums

Great #ocean explorer Sylvia Earle turned 90 recently …
adamvaughan.bsky.social
🌊I caught up with veteran oceanographer Sylvia Earle, who recently turned 90.

"What really caught my imagination, even as a child, was the extraordinary diversity of life in the sea. Creatures that have no counterpart on the land, like starfish".

Did you know? The #dingo ears move independently of one another and can rotate to face the back of the head. A dingo ear is fully furred on the inside. This means sound vibrations can travel all the way through the ear and gives them an higher than normal sound quality #wildlife #mammals

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

Australia is the best & worst for #mammals here’s why @jackdashby.bsky.social
jackdashby.bsky.social
As I argue in #PlatypusMatters, Australia has the world's best mammals, but is sadly the worst place on Earth to be a mammal, with the planet's worst #extinction rate.
The Christmas Island shrew is now the latest species to be officially declared extinct.

And then there were none: Australia’s only shrew declared extinct
The tally of Australian mammals extinct since 1788 is now 39 species – far more than for any other country

Big news for beavers in Wales #conservation

Big news for beavers in Wales 🦫

We’re thrilled the Welsh government has legally recognised beavers as a native species requiring protection. This is a huge step forward in ensuring beavers — and the incredible ecosystem services they provide — are re-established in Wales.

And whose fault?

Ours (humans) of course :(
