The Nutri-Score is more helpful in guiding healthier food choices in Indonesia, Mexico and Türkiye than health warning labels, our new #HPGVienna @univie.ac.at @unibayreuth.bsky.social study suggests. Yet, Nutri-Score may also lead to health halos that need more attention!

The present study tested the impact of the Nutri-Score and warning labels on purchasing intentions and product perceptions in Indonesia and Türkiye, where no FOPNL system is currently in place, and Mexico, where warning labels are mandatory since October 2020. Method: Adult participants (N = 639; nIndonesia = 212, nMexico = 203, nTürkiye = 224) were randomly assigned to viewing eight product pairs (chips, instant noodles, meats, condiments, sweet spreads, cookies, yoghurt, fruit drinks) with either no label, a Nutri-Score, or warning labels, and indicated which product (or neither) they would rather buy, and which product was healthier, contained more calories, sugar, saturated fat, and sodium. Results: Nutri-Score influenced purchasing intentions for four categories; warning labels only for one. Overall, Nutri-Score was somewhat more effective in guiding consumers to identify healthier choices and products higher in nutrients that should be consumed in moderation compared to the warning labels, although effects varied substantially between product categories and nutrients. Conclusion: Both Nutri-Score and warning labels potentially promote healthier food choices, with Nutri-Score producing somewhat larger and more consistent effects. More research is needed on potential negative consequences of labels and the conditions under which they might appear to maximize public health benefit.

Travelers visiting the United States from countries like Britain, France, Germany and South Korea could soon have to undergo a review of up to five years of their social media history, according to a proposal filed on Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The change would affect visitors eligible for the visa waiver program, which allows people from 42 countries to travel to the United States for up to 90 days without a visa as long as they first obtain electronic travel authorization. In a document filed on Tuesday in the Federal Register, C.B.P. said it plans to ask applicants for a long list of personal data including social media, email addresses from the last decade, and the names, birth dates, places of residence and birthplaces of parents, spouses, siblings and children. Under the current system, applicants from visa waiver countries must enroll in the Electronic System for Travel Authorization program. They pay $40 and submit an email address, home address, phone number and emergency contact information. The authorization is good for two years.

In der Arbeitsgruppe Gesundheitspsychologie (Prof. König) besteht die Möglichkeit, ein Forschungspraktikum für einen Zeitraum von mind. 3 Monaten ab Feb/März 2026 (Start zwischen 16. Feb und 2. März, mind. 20 h pro Woche) zu absolvieren. Das Praktikum beschäftigt sich mit der folgenden Thematik: Obst & Gemüse sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil einer gesunden Ernährung. Dennoch erreichen viele Menschen nicht die empfohlene Mindestmenge von fünf Portionen Obst & Gemüse pro Tag. So konsumierten beispielsweise 2019 in Österreich nur 5,6 % der Bevölkerung täglich mindestens fünf Portionen Obst und Gemüse. Während gezeigt wurde, dass digitales Self-Monitoring ein effektives Mittel zur Veränderung des Ernährungsverhaltens sein kann, ist die Rolle von Streaking bisher wenig untersucht. Streaking lässt sich definieren als das aufeinanderfolgende Ausführen eines vorher festgelegten Verhaltens in regelmäßigen Intervallen, etwa täglich, ohne Unterbrechung. Obwohl viele kommerzielle Apps Streaking einsetzen, um das Engagement der Nutzer*innen zu steigern oder aufrechtzuerhalten, fehlen bislang wissenschaftliche Belege für die Wirksamkeit von Streaking als Instrument zur Verhaltensänderung. Die geplante Studie untersucht daher den Einfluss von Streaking auf den Konsum von Obst & Gemüse. Ihre Aufgaben: • Unterstützung bei der Planung, Vorbereitung, Koordination und Durchführung der Datenerhebung • Mitwirkung bei Datenmanagement, -aufbereitung & -analyse Voraussetzungen: • Interesse für empirische Forschungsarbeit & Gesundheitspsychologie • Gewissenhaftigkeit & genaues Arbeiten • Gute Kenntnisse im Umgang mit dem MS-Office Paket • Gute kommunikative Fähigkeiten, Flexibilität & Teamfähigkeit • Sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse Fragen zum Praktikum beantwortet Ihnen gerne Dr. Alea Ruf.
