There’s no way they can walk up to my pond to stand in the water to fish but this one must’ve found he can fly down vertically and land on the stones of the waterfall despite there being two acers sticking out over it. I’m going to have a serious think about how to protect them.

They’re the first fishes I’ve lost in 9 years since I put the Perspex screens around it. Yes I know he has to eat but Rainham and Hornchurch marshes are just up the road as the heron flies, there must be lots of fishes there. 🥲

Yes nature is very cruel sometimes. There are the Thames Marshes which must have lots of fishes only a mile or two away, why couldn’t he fish there? 🥲

The three little blue ones were characters, always first up for food. I think they were a cross between one of the shubunkins and a koi. I’m so cross with myself

Yes I might have to if it comes back. I’ve not had a problem for 9 years since I put Perspex panels around it & it’s so overgrown on the other side. This heron must be brave or very hungry. He walked right down to the bottom where it’s very enclosed by trees and even when he saw me he wasn’t fussed!

I could kick myself, I meant to put the net over on Sunday but decided I was too knackered, I was out yesterday and planned to do it this afternoon. If he comes back the net is on now 🤬 I can’t see how he’s getting to them, the pond is surrounded by Perspex sheets on 2 sides and by plants on others

The fucking heron has been and taken 5 of my smaller fish, my three little blue ones who were so sweet and 2 gold ones. I went out into the kitchen and saw him strutting around on the lawn despite the rotary drier being up! He went everywhere I couldn’t believe how bold he was.
