Gremlins game where the famed "rules" factor in heavily. Water procreation can be hazardous or helpful. Eating between midnight and dawn lets you "go gremlin," with double-edged effects. Reversing it requires rare resource/condition, making it a heavy choice with possible permanent consequences.

Oh yeah, and as a bit of extra context, part of why this felt notable to me is that in Street Fighter 6 there's also a character who says "So it goes," but the Japanese version of that line is NOT the Vonnegut quote, so you can infer that the reference came from the translator (or was an accident).

FWIW, it's just dumb luck that I happen to have this and read it earlier this year, so it's still fresh in my mind. It's the only non-Japanese book I've ever read in Japanese.

Unless we're looking at different Harada posts, it looks like his translation does what I said: it translates そういうものだ as "That’s just how it is" and then treats "So it goes" as a separate line. It's not that it irks me, it's just a bit of context that seems to have gotten lost in translation.

Seeing a few versions of the Itagaki translation going around, but none of them have caught that he actually says "So it goes" twice, once in Japanese and once in English, so you know it's the Vonnegut line.

✌️People✌️ are translating the Japanese version as "That's how it is" etc.

My dad always tells this story about how he read The Right Stuff while confined to the couch with a cracked knee, and the book made him laugh so hard he fell off the couch and hurt himself (again).

I finally read it this year and…it didn't make me laugh that hard, but it was fantastic.
