Hello everyone! I'm new to the platform, I thought it might be a good idea to do a little thread with some of my work and some thing I am currently working. I am a technical environment artist with a deep love of learning and educating, along with a love for creating unique shaders and custom tools.

Digging through an old hard drive, I found this shader I made with the unity shader graph back in 2023, It was my first experience creating a custom lighting shader and I learnt a lot of techniques from figuring it out! just something fun to share and look back on

Here is that breakdown on the paintings I promised! Made the frames as trimsheet elements and included the canvas textures on the same atlas, Currently keeping everything at 512 pixels / meter, loads of spare room but much more wall deco to make aswell!

Insane how much of a difference just rotating some of the tables by 90 degrees made, It really makes the space feel more lived in! sometimes it's not the custom tools or the highly engineered asset pipelines- It's rotating some stuff by 90 degrees
Made a few changes to the geo, added some paintings and changed up the roof, mainly though I worked on adjusting the lighting, soon ill add some lanterns or such for in world lighting!

Moss on half the roof was a good play I think, may replace with lichen at some stage, but for now it is blocking the light which is all I really wanted! can move on to other things now- perhaps finally the tables and chairs? We shall see! Video in comments

Moss on the right hand part of the roof I think! I reckon the wooden fence looks better in shadow. Will post an update picture with that in when I get some time to work on it later

Quick single day project "Clover", plants built with pivot painter in Houdini, Unreal Engine 5.7, Hardware Lumen, Cinematic Lens Flares, runs real-time

Added plastic sheeting and lattice for the leaves, will be adding more as I feel it looked better when the sky was more occluded. Updated to Unreal 5.6 to take advantage of the raytraced translucency changes for the plastic sheeting!

Visited one of the CafΓ©s I have been *loosely* basing this scene off today and took note of some of structural details that may benefit my scene (and ate a delicious sandwich).

Would love to get some community feedback on preference between the before and after shots!

Added a leaf mesh to the foliage system and took a first pass at the lighting, feels a bit more cozy now :)

Using Niagara to spawn foliage cards! Is this a good idea? I'm not sure yet! But it seems to perform well.

Got a little bit of material work done on this blockout today. All materials made in #substance3ddesigner some per instance material variation tricks done in #unrealengine material graph

Heard @bsky.app's video quality got an upgrade! good chance to show a #Blender3d and #UnrealEngine side project I have been working on to keep brushed up on blender while I use maya for my day job. all meshes made in blender, trees with geo nodes. textures in #SubstancePainter & #SubstanceDesigner
Another blog post! this one showing a fun project from a few years back, back in 2022 I was VERY into #payday2 and wanted to have a go at making my own texture mod, this post shows my experience and the workflow I developed doing that www.artstation.com/blogs/lachie... #modding #substancepainter
Been wanting to try out the art station blogging feature for a while, figured it would be a good platform to share some work that I am proud of but is not main portfolio worthy, so here's a test post showing some photoscanning stuff I tried back in 2021 and 2022 www.artstation.com/lachiesteere...

Is there any plan to archive the talk online for those who could not attend in person? Would love to see it.

I figure thats likely up to unrealfest but figured I'd ask
This reminds me of something one of my old trainers used to say, "hey, these different standards are getting confusing, I know! I'll create a new standard and everyone will just use that one! Right...?"
this image was for my bug log cos the grass I made is way to bug, but damn- default cube is thinking about some deep stuff #unrealengine
Love it! Lovely gradient work

Coffee stain is always a good shout, just make sure it's subtle if it's a ui asset. think about where the asset has been (story wise) who's desk has been across? What conditions has it been stored in? The answers to these questions help drive unique details. Asset looks great keep up the good work!
