Lake Lenore in lower Grand Coulee, eastern Washington.
Here is another image of the southern end of the Great Blade in lower Grand Coulee, eastern Washington.
Here is another image from upper Moses Coulee in central Washington. This image was taken in the early morning, and looks down the Coulee from the terminal moraine of a lobe of the Cordilleran ice sheet from our last ice age (about 14,000 years ago).
The following image was taken in upper Moses Coulee in central Washington. Looking northward (up the coulee), it shows the terminal moraine, and glacial outflow channels, of a lobe of the Cordilleran ice sheet from our last ice age (about 14,000 years ago). Geologically, this is a recent event.
Young deer eating a leaf, Steamboat Rock state Park, Grand Coulee, Washington.
American Coot, Jameson Lake, Moses Coulee, Washington.
Saratoga Passage sunset, taken from Camano Island State Park on 9/24/2022. In the distance, you first see Whidbey Island (thin black line), then you see the Olympic Mountains. Orca Whales, and Gray Whales, can be spotted in this passage.
Short-eared owl, Samish Flats, Washington. Image taken 11/19/2018
Here is another image depicting the transition to winter in the Pacific North Wet. This one is based on an image of the Seattle skyline that I took about eight years ago.
In the Pacific North Wet, the "big dark" is nearly upon on. Starting Thursday, we are due to receive our first atmospheric river, with heavy rains and strong winds. The image below depicts this upcoming time of year. Image is based on a winter photo taken along the Padilla Bay shore trail.
One more from last week at Steamboat Rock state park, Grand Coulee, eastern Washington.
Sitting quietly in a field paid off at Steamboat Rock state park in Grand Coulee, eastern Washington.
Setting moon at sunrise (last week), Thompson Lake, Grand Coulee, eastern Washington.
Wonderful image - great light, perspective, pose, and beautifully showing both the bird and its habitat. Great image!
The first image shows the Great Blade, with Alkali Lake, in the lower Grand Coulee. The Great Blade is the longest blade of flood-eroded basalt within the Channeled Scabland of eastern Washington state. The second image shows great flood flow striations and potholes, just east of the Great Blade.
The southern end of the Great Blade, with Lake Lenore, in the lower Grand Coulee. The Great Blade is the longest blade of flood-eroded basalt within the Channeled Scabland of eastern Washington state. I will post two more images shortly...
Silverstar Mountain, North Cascades, Washington.
North Cascades Highway running along Granite Creek, just outside the North Cascades National Park. This area got a bunch of snow a couple days after this image was taken.
In the North Cascade Mountains of Washington, Cutthroat Peak rises up behind a basin with larch trees showing their golden fall color. Many years ago, I climbed the south buttress of Cutthroat Peak, seen on the left side of this recent image. Those were the days of youth and adventure!
Fall colors along the shoreline of Banks Lake, Grand Coulee, Washington State.
Another false color infrared image from Steamboat Rock State Park, Grand Coulee, Washington. This time showing a more typical desert scrubland.
Steamboat Rock State Park, Grand Coulee, Washington, in false color infrared. I really like this image. Not only because of the water reflection, but also because of the gradation of infrared coloring in the trees (which were showing signs of fall).
Here are a couple more false color infrared images from the North Cascade Mountains of Washington. The left image is Ross Lake, while the right image is Colonial Peak viewed from the Diablo Lake overlook. Images taken with a Nikon Z7 camera (IR converted to 590nm) and a 50mm f/1.8 lens.
Early Winter Spires (left) and Liberty Bell Mountain (right), Washington Pass, North Cascade Mountains. Image taken last week, just days before the first snow of the season which dropped over 10 inches of snow in this area.
