Think about this: Russia has not shifted their position on Ukraine since he started the war in 2022. The initial invasion of Crimea in 2014, imo, started his long game. The West appeased him by allowing him to take Crimea. Like Hitler, huge mistake bc he started a war of attrition. He will not stop.
