Yes!! Expecting the private market to provide affordable housing is lunacy. Corporations are there to make money. Period. If they can make more by evicting longstanding tenants, doing renos, and relisting for double? They will. "Oh but there are rules!" they have the resources to find the loopholes.

I want to go and see and do! After that, I think I'll probably want that solitude, too. Maybe. One of my uncles moved to Pressey Lake, he's happy there! Quiet, small. Bursts of activity in the summer but otherwise not a lot of people (just enough to keep everyone from getting too isolated).

If my kids make lives for themselves, that's when I want to bust out and experience life for a while. I've been taking care of people since I met my ex husband in 2004. It's been just me and the kids (50/50) for the past ten years but it's been single income household so I work too much. Need a life

Ugh, yes! Completely. Although my previous landlord was in the passive income category to the point where he collected rent and did literally nothing else and I'd have to say I am fully against that, too 😆

Totally! Me? I'm priced all the way out of buying. Decent enough wage, but the prices are what they are. My Aunt bought a new-ish townhome in this area as a single parent and highschool teacher 40 years ago. That same property is now worth $1M and likely out of reach of someone in the same position

The demographics of renters have changed, but the perceptions towards those renting has not for some people. I'm extra lucky I found the landlords I did, after seeing the attitudes of some others!

It's nothing to feel dirty about. Rentals are needed! I love and appreciate my current landlords a lot!

My long-term hope is to get into a co-op! My kids are not great students (attendance issues) so I don't dare move out of their catchment and ask for a transfer, but once they graduate, that's my plan! Starting one though, now that's an idea!

I'm not sure where people get off treating tenants like those aren't the people paying the mortgage. "oh but landlords have more costs than the tenant pays!" Yet at the end of the day, who profits?

Yes, one thousand times this! During the pandemic, people hoarded hand sanitizer and masks and resold for a profit. Eventually stores had to put limits on those sales so other people could access those supplies. Maybe we could do something like that. Want to invest? Buy stocks.

I am in a group for landlords and tenants in BC. The entitlement from landlords is . . . a lot.

OP: My landlord's contractors came into my unit without notice a day before planned
Chorus of landlords: WELL AT LEAST YOUR LL DOES UPGRADES! YOU DON'T OWN IT, TENANT SCUM! YOU'RE BEING UNREASONABLE!

That is a terrific idea! It used to be that we could do a family outing, like going to the haunted corn maze, and they'd be good but not only did that not work, the militant one put a reeeeeal damper on the evening. Something aggressive like paintball might be better. Thanks!!

I need a good book on how to parent teen siblings. One is not speaking to the other which is causing the other to go self-harmy and I'm at a loss here.

There has to be a punk way to fix it. Patches? Or replace the entire collar? My teen cuts all the collars right off all her shirts now so can't relate 🤦‍♀️😆

Same. My cousin treated me to a spa day. I got asked when the last time I had a facial was. Apparently "I don't know, maybe 8 years ago?" is an incorrect response.
