'Strong Catholic identity' is widely interpreted as meaning 'reactionary' or 'conservative'.
Authentic Catholic education must promote a post-Vatican II understanding of Church, emphasising links between faith & practice (<- Catholic Social Teaching) and preferential care for the poor & vulnerable.

“Survival of the fittest”
is often used to justify capitalist society, but this wasn’t a phrase that Darwin used.
He described it as “better designed for an immediate, local environment" and wrote of groups that survived through empathy and sharing rather than greed.

🧵 As I read lots of social media responses to the US bishops' recent statements on immigration, I think lots of Catholics forget: not all rights are equally weighted or implemented.

And this isn't something new. This isn't moral relativism.

This goes back for centuries if not millennia.

Take for example private property.

Church doctrinal documents pretty clearly affirm the right to private property.

But it's not an ultimate or total right. Several doctors of the Church point out that if you have five coats and the poor man has none, you don't have a right to all those coats.

Ordinary Goodness
The protagonists of Pope Leo's favorite movies are ordinary people who, against all evidence, still believe in the possibility of goodness.

Grateful that the #Catholic response aligns with Jesus' message. Let's reject the choice every celebration of violence and desecreation of the sacred.

I don't think we understand just how bad the decline of the Internet is to knowledge.

3 years ago, I could perform a very basic search in any engine and get an absurd number of relevant links, research articles, etc.

Today, I can perform the same search and find absolutely nothing.

It is worth mentioning that in a recent legal case Google divulged that they make more money from obfuscating search results than delivering them. That’s a large part of why search results are both monopolised snd appalling at currently. They sell more ads if you rage click or trawl through results

Vandaag bestaat Amsterdam 750 jaar.
