Watched the lead bounce back and forth until I felt like I was watching a tennis match (albeit with hot chocolate and Amarula... out of Baileys). Went to bed. Woke up. New majority government.

To be fair, no fridge is explosion proof if you try hard enough.

Very cool. One of my favourite concepts behind crystallography is symmetry, growth of repeating motifs in 3 dimensions and how the positions or atoms or molecules in a crystal lattice in the microscopic scale can influence the macroscopic appearance and shape of a crystal.

Good luck, keep up the fight! Solidarity!

Yup. Eventually you’ll get the platitudes of “addressing students’ best interests” and “needing to work as a team”, and practicing self care.

The admin has likely already calculated how long they can operate without paying faculty and amount of money they’ll save from it. They won’t consider returning to the table until the start of the term is threatened. Not until tuition revenue is threatened will they negotiate in good faith.

...2/2 This WILL STILL impact students.. & admin will blame faculty for it. It also aims to take away on-campus student support for their profs. Bluntly, it's a dick move by Dal, dismissive of their faculty and students. Faculty working conditions are student learning conditions. #Solidarity!

I am disgusted by the locking out of @dalfaculty.bsky.social by the administration @dalhousie.bsky.social. This is clearly an attempt to bully the faculty with appearing to not impact the students. Rubbish. This is when most faculty shift to intensive preparations for the fall term... 1/2

Just heard the news. Tragic. Davit will be very dearly missed.

We stopped sharing our “close one” stories in group meetings. Led to nervous students questioning their decision to study chemistry. But hard to emphasize good safety practices without sharing the “when things go wrong” scenarios.

I heard a “pop!”, hiss, and my gloved hand darted in and wrenched the valve. It felt like an eternity but the grad student next to me said it was like watching a snake strike.

Or an ancient in-house made stainless steel pressure vessel with no pressure release valve that a retired colleague tried to “gift” me as a new faculty member.
