#Comet C/2025 K1 (ATLAS) showed three clearly recognisable fragments of its nucleus on 22 November, and it appeared brighter than I had expected. Due to its fast movement relative to the stars, I could only take 20-second exposures through the C8 (image is a stack of 100 subs) #astrophotography

In this JWST image, Saturn appears as a pale-gold sphere with faint horizontal bands, encircled by a bright, thin oval ring. Three tiny white points to the lower left represent the satellites Dione, Enceladus and Tethys against the black background.

NGC 3293, often referred to as the Gem Cluster, is a spectacular bright open star cluster located in the constellation of Carina. In this narrowband bicolour image the delicate nebulosity across the entire background really stands out. It is one of the Southern Sky's finest binocular objects and consists of nearly one hundred stars huddled together in a tight group, with a contrasting bright red supergiant near it's centre - similar in appearance to Kappa Crucis in the Jewel Box Cluster. Floating against a colourful backdrop of Milky Way stars and red Hydrogen emission, the cluster is also surrounded by a delicate faint blue haze visible in broadband images. The cluster was discovered by Abbé Nicolas Louis de La Caille in 1752 during his expedition to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Hubble sniffs out a brilliant star death in a “rotten egg” nebula - From Goddard Space Flight Center - https://flic.kr/p/QyAnXX
The Calabash Nebula, pictured here — which has the technical name OH 231.8+04.2 — is a spectacular example of the death of a low-mass star like the sun. This image taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope shows the star going through a rapid transformation from a red giant to a planetary nebula, during which it blows its outer layers of gas and dust out into the surrounding space. The recently ejected material is spat out in opposite directions with immense speed — the gas shown in yellow is moving close to one million kilometers per hour (621,371 miles per hour). Astronomers rarely capture a star in this phase of its evolution because it occurs within the blink of an eye — in astronomical terms. Over the next thousand years the nebula is expected to evolve into a fully-fledged planetary nebula. The nebula is also known as the Rotten Egg Nebula because it contains a lot of sulphur, an element that, when combined with other elements, smells like a rotten egg — but luckily, it resides over 5,000 light-years away in the constellation of Puppis. The image shows a city at night. One can see a broad dark track from bottom to top. This is the canalised Danube river. Zooming in shows you a smaller winding river which actually passes near the inner city. This is the Danube Canal. Both are waterworks from the 19th century, although canalization of the Danube started already late in the 16th century (according to Wikipedia). The Danube used to meander in a wide flat flood plain and over time moved away from old Vienna. So "the beautiful blue Danube" was something from the past.

The image shows a night view of Egypt, with the lighted winding Nile valley in the centre, Cairo and the Nile delta twoards upper left, Israel, Lebanon and Amman in Jordan at top centre, the Sinai peninsula, the northern part of the Red Sea and part of Saudi Arabia above centre and to the right. At upper left is part of the eastern Mediterranean Sea. At top is the blckness of space over the curved horizon of the Earth. Even at night the desert has a brown tan. At lower right some small lights are visible. These are from the New Toshka City. This is a development in the desert, west of Lake Nasser, and part of the New Valley Project, an ambitious plan to develop the southwestern desert of Egypt into an agricultural and housing area, to lift the pressure off the heavily populated Nile valley.
