I wrote this essay primarily on the Great Tapestry of Scotland, but it also reads as a potted history of Scots, our literature, arts & culture, and contributions to science and industry, amongst other things!

I also embroidered the 🦄 - our national animal!

I love how your embroidery evokes the brushstrokes of your painted art!

Happy Ada Lovelace Day! My favourite woman in STEM is my lovely mum, who pivoted from studying genetics to becoming a sought-after software engineer & IT consultant. She worked on some high-profile finance projects during her career, including a system for calculating commissions for IFAs.

What would Link do?? He would share this, because that’s what he did every single day, being a legend.

11 hours left on our bold daily drive, which we’re running all month to help six families survive the slow genocide of ongoing starvation & displacement. Our help matters more than ever. 528/1000

Thanks! It’s making me think I might have to dye it again soon 😊

The #BlueskyArtShow theme this week is #Glow 🍁 so here’s a lovely autumnal oak tree.
An oak tree is silhouetted against the evening sun, and its leaves are illuminated, showing off their vibrant autumnal colours.

Haven’t dyed my hair this colour for quite a while but love how it caught the golden hour light in this photo.
My long red hair glowing in the golden hour light, with my reflection just seen in the window behind.

I started mine when I was 37, and did it part-time as an online degree. I have ADHD but got through it with support from peers, family, friends & my uni. Just a few years prior, I wouldn’t have believed it was possible!

Best of luck with your studies! I had been working in my industry for a number of years before I embarked on an MA - it was challenging for sure, but I also found it consolidated & expanded my existing skillset. The experience I had going into the course was extremely valuable too. No regrets!

Awesome! I’m just an hour south of the capital by train, so I’m not far away. Hope your current trip goes well & do keep me updated. Happy travels!

For sure - you’ll just have to! Haste ye back, as we say around here. ☺️ (Maybe even do an arty meetup?!)

Enjoy - got a soft spot for M2, fka the Dean Gallery, because of the Paolozzi works there. Used to go there often to get inspiration when I was aspiring to become an art student many moons ago!

I believe there’s some of her work still on display in the National Museum of Scotland too 😊 and I seem to recall a marble bust at the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh!

Believe me, you won’t regret it - her lovingly restored murals are absolutely jaw-dropping!
