Honored to be able to highlight the importance of scientific research to me personally at a time when I work to raise awareness of the threats to research freedoms and academic research for everyone.

Questions explored: If we are undergoing so much change in our ecosystem — content, research, students — what would we stick with? What would we leave behind?

Instead of duck and cover — is this an opportunity to create a system to make things better?

Such a great opportunity to start an important conversation about the future of research, librarianship, library technology, and scholarly publishing.

I saw this documentary at an @everylibrary.bsky.social hosted screening in June and I still think about it. Powerful, Insightful, Alarming.
As book banning sweeps across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate, brave librarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy. A film by Kim A. Snyder.

Opens UK 9/26 @berthadochouse.bsky.social, US 10/03 @filmforumnyc.bsky.social, rollout to follow.

I don’t just support libraries, academic institutions, research, & science because of my advocacy work with @everylibrary.bsky.social, I am here because of scientific research, clinical trials, and the ongoing care I receive at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute & Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital.

🔴Stop. Listen. 620 individual titles pulled from shelves - multiple that by conservatively 3 we're looking at 1800 books removed from schools across this county.
Just spent Saturday afternoon comparing the state’s lists with Hillsborough’s catalog.

It’s 620 unique titles. That’s not total number of removed copies - those are unique book titles.
In response to state guidance for further review, the district will pull all of the titles in inventory that appeared on the 22/23 and 23/24 state reports.

The state offered no context for the removals on these reports. Over 550 titles including Ban This Book and about a dozen picture books.

They're lying.

And we have the receipts.

SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.

They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

I’m so pleased to be working with Emerald Publishing to engage with academic librarians on the core issues they face today.
Today we’ve announced a strategic partnership with the EveryLibrary Institute (ELI), a non-profit, non-partisan organization committed to advancing and supporting libraries, academic institutions, and library professionals.

The IMLS is an independent agency created by Congress. It does not fall under the authority of the Executive Branch. If, say, dismantling DOE is illegal, this is illegal squared.
NEW — Keith Sonderling, Trump’s Deputy Secretary of Labor, has been named the Acting Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an agency source tells me. He’ll arrive tomorrow at their office with DOGE and their security detail.
