The bells over Zapolyarny Palace toll twelve thunderous tintinnabulations, tremorous in the tranquil twilight touched by tenebrous light. Before him lies a future uncertain, behind him a road paved from handpicked possibilities, and in his hands he holds a knot of vermilion the shade of his sanguine heart.

Here, in the land of eternal winter, the sun rises with shearing winds, and the one he's asked to walk by his side shields his silks of marital red with a mantle of sacred anemo.

"Dijun," the old title floats between stained glass and crystal candelabra, lifting trailing hems and the eyes of a hundred onlookers, "it's time."

It's time.

From frigid nights to a lovelorn archon, the people of Snezhnaya have long since grown accustomed to the taste of futile struggle, the sound of hollow purpose, the familiar touch and tang of nihility asking what meaning is there to a life born of, from, and nursed in bitter misery?

Above, the sky answers in roiling clouds. Below, the ice grants no quarter. Only in the shared breath of humanity does the simple truth reveal itself in peals of gentle wonder.

Nothing matters. Everything matters. Tomorrow is but a fancy until conviction shapes it into today.

His thoughts wander, carried by nerves he believed the millennia had worn away. He's older than all in attendance this morning, older than the palace surrounding, older even than the ground which bears him from hall to stately hall. Yet, beneath snow white banners and rime-dipped blooms, layers of obligation and crimson yearning, he is born again not as Yanwang Dijun, Morax, or even Zhongli the mortal wayfarer, but as something new, fragile, precious beyond wisdom and names.

When he sees him dressed in his pole star whites, his everyday scarf replaced by a prince's scarlet mantle pooling over marble tiles and the velvet of deific kings, he knows this tremulous joy like the twin to tragedy, and his heart beats faster for it.

Last night he kissed Ajax farewell. Today, it is Tartaglia cradling his fingers, draping red cord and joining their hands.

In truth, he had wanted a quiet affair, away from the burdens of expectation and high station, where only family and the false stars above would bear witness to their union. They'd exchange their cups overflowing and perform their three bows, and when the night grew long and languorous, they'd retreat to their marital bed decorated an exuberant red by the people who matter most.

Yes, it would have been perfect, but time like the roll of war drums waits for no man, god, archon or otherwise.

The Tsaritsa's pellucid speech leads them through the traditional vows, and a country built on perseverance and piety pray for their pole star, for his happiness today and his glory tomorrow.

With a heavy heart and a smile flitting between stable shores and the call of the abyss, Tartaglia eases the band of lucent silvery white onto his husband's finger.

"Till death do us part."
