It was sad listening to the CE on Women’s Hour earlier…clearly no real desire from members or the governing body to do this and proper pride in how trans inclusive they’ve been. All the Supreme Court judgement has done is create a problem where none existed. The gov must legislate to fix this.
Again: the project is clearly to drive trans women, in particular, out of public life altogether.
Seems there has been some co-ordination.

Couldn't agree more. Absolute nightmare for those of us who only occasionally need a car.
Zipcar is shutting down its UK operations, basically the only car club that worked in London. Massive kick to anyone who tries to live in capital without owning a car. Having been a customer for 17 years and used Zipvans to move house repeatedly, this is.... very bad! (Zipcar is owned by Avis)

Budget quite literally taxes the rich and even contains a actual wealth tax (with a lower threshold than Zack's fantasy one) but, you know, facts arent that important to him

Plus sides to today: Two-child benefit scrapped. Largely progressive tax implications. Good market reaction. No big spending cuts. Nightmare prospect of cutting funding to net zero etc avoided. It's a left-wing budget. Those who say there's no difference between Labour and Tories are bananas.

Today is the anniversary of the repeal of Section 28 in England and Wales. Here's why the campaign to strike down that homophobic law was what first got me involved in politics 👇

Headline from a serious and long working paper on the economic impact of Brexit. Possible that this has been feeding into OBR and HMT discussions?

New Yorkers faced the choice between hope and fear, and just like we've seen in London, hope won.

Huge congratulations to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social on his historic campaign.

Tonight you get your roti and your roses - enjoy!

You'll have to ignore the buckets of anti-trans campaigning commentary in the piece, but the basic news is quite simple. The EHRC has failed to get the government to accept its anti-guidance in haste. Something is holding it up, perhaps for another a year www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

god this is properly mortifying stuff from Zarah there, GCSE-level analysis, quite hard to watch
We take no joy criticising a young left-wing UK political figure who has often spoken up for workers' rights and progressive causes. But these barely coherent comments from Zarah Sultana on Ukraine sum up much of what is wrong with her wing of the left www.instagram.com/reel/DQT62ys...

Above all, the police approach in that decade culminated in the unlawful killing of 96 people and decades of cover-up.
Jenrick casting 1980s British football hooliganism as something that was easily dealt with by police and not an era defining issue which we're still living with the consequences of today... He's genuinely the most unserious person in British politics rn

Stunning work!
Thanks to London’s bold action, almost 10 million people are now breathing cleaner air.

That means fewer children will grow up with stunted lungs and fewer people will have to suffer from asthma, dementia and heart disease.

Can someone ask Farage or Zia Yusuf why, if they're so concerned about incitement to violence, they had Lucy Connolly as a guest star at their conference?

I also particularly enjoyed his comment reconciling his apparent Sharia Law plans and yet standing in front of a Murphy’s banner. Great speech.
Very good stuff from Sadiq Khan at the Labour Irish society event. He said there are two reasons he loves coming to Labour Conference.

“One is the reception at the Labour Party Irish Society reception.

“The second is to get away from all the Sharia Law in London”

Fantastic event by @liamconlon.bsky.social highlighting the importance of the campaign for a Philomena’s Law. The redress scheme after the horrors of Ireland’s Mother & Baby homes shouldn’t create financial hardship for the survivors. And thanks to my lovely Siobhan McS for backing it!

They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.
