How is he driving? The same way everyone else does as far as I can tell. He’s using the wheel to control the direction of the vehicle and the pedals to regulate its speed

Stunning set from Cate Le Bon last night in York. Struggling a bit at work today as a result - a busy night. Worth it to see one of the greats on top form.

Today I am mostly thinking about the popular inter-war literary genre 'animal stories written by fascists'. Join me.
Title page of a collection of animal stories by Henry Williamson: TARKA THE OTTER, SALAR THE SALMON, THE EPIC OF BROCK THE BADGER, CHAKCHEK THE PEREGRINE.

Haha! There's a woman on my post round called Mrs England and I invariably find myself singing This is England by The Clash after delivering her mail

I remember the time I figured out the reason I often have Radiohead's No Surprises going round my head: its opening notes sound like the door bells on my post round

Je me souviens sorting on the primary frames in the early 2000s. There was a firm of accountants called Wheawill Sudworth and whenever anybody got a letter for them we all sang Wheawill Wheawill Sudworth to the tune of We Will Rock You by Queen

Places I saw the Cross of St George today (Oct 3, 2010)
1. Flying from a dead tree in a garden on Vicarage Drive
2. Painted on a drain cover in Elizabeth Road
3. Flying from what used to be The Green Cross real ale pub but is now a 'sex encounter' club with blacked out windows and plans for a sauna

Just noticed I mixed up feet and inches on the alt text - Spinal Tap tribute

Amazing, don’t remember either of those. Would love to see them - just checked YouTube for the Ross clip but it’s not there : (

Finally managed to get across to the Helen Chadwick show at the Hepworth, Wakefield. Progressive and vital viewed now, through a haze of 2025 induced melancholia. Ugh. Loved Caroline Walker's Mothering paintings too
Gallery space. On the floor, Helen Chadwick's Piss Flowers sculptures, On the walls, her large Viral Landscape prints. Helen Chadwick's Carcass, 1986: a tall (7"?) glass tank full of composting organic waste Interpretation board at the Hepworth Gallery showing a photograph of Helen Chadwick's 1981 work, Model Institution, an installation with audio that recreated a dole office cubicle. Morning at Little Bugs: Caroline Walker's big (8"x12" approx) painting of a woman and four young children at Little Bugs outdoor nursery

Bookshop Day trip to my local, the excellent Read in Holmfirth to pick up this collection of Jason Polan’s post office based work. Also spotted Shaun Usher’s latest compilation, Diaries of Note which came out this week. Thrilled to see an entry from Round About Town featured : )

Listening to the new season of Round About Town by @kevinboniface.bsky.social while I bake a cake for my kid’s 21st (?!) birthday. More humour and brilliant insights, with an even sharper edge. Highly recommended if you like good things.
kevinboniface.bsky.social
Thanks for listening! Hope the the cake turned out well. I’m off to share this for a spot of shameless self promotion

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.
