So often the 'presenting problem' isnt the main issue. The person with diabetes who's struggling with grief & loneliness; the person with Crohn's who just wants to feel free; the person with allergies who wants to be a good dad...

Listen. And listen. Hear the underlying story. Hear what matters.
Haha love this.. I too turn in a screeching banshee with any bird in the house gifted by our cat!!

I’ve been asked about empathy a lot lately, especially with leadership.

Empathy is your ability to understand how someone feels in a specific situation, and respond with awareness, not assumption. It’s about being effective, not soft.

Leaders who understand people lead better.

There’s always an expectation that quieter, more introverted people need to adapt to fit in to infrastructure that works for outspoken, ‘alpha’ type people. This is SUCH a waste of expertise. Now more than ever we need to make space for more thoughtfulness, emotional intelligence, reflection...

When a little thought of appreciation comes to mind for someone- tell them. Do it.

"Hey👋I know this is bit random, but that time you helped me, I really appreciated the way you..."

Little unseen things we all do, & hopefully receive. These things really matter- especially in these anxious times.

7 elements in tackling complex problems at work (not necessarily in linear order - all elements are interconnected). It starts with seeing the wider picture: we need to pull ourselves out of the specifics due to the interdependencies in big, complex problems:

“At all ages, increased activity was associated with lower mortality”.

Good to read this in the @bmj.com having done an hour’s indoor bike ride with #Zwift this morning.

But how do we help everyone to get more active? Not just those who are already taking lots of exercise.
