I am excited to share my inaugural post for my new Substack, "Recording Memories," about Suzanne Vega, whose music about alienation and torment managed to make my young tormented, alienated self feel a lot less ... alone.

Fair point. But that’s just the headline—the piece largely concurs with and supports your argument

This is a federal agent pointing a weapon at a person recording them.

ICE has become Trump’s personal military that he is using to terrorize communities and cities that don’t support him. And some say we shouldn’t call him a fascist? Open your eyes.
Every coherent (using the term loosely here) word out of his mouth is an admission.
Trump: "Obama got a prize for doing nothing. Obama got a prize, he didn't even know what he got it -- he got elected and they gave it to Obama for doing absolutely nothing but destroying our country. He was not a good president."

Feels worth noting that this phase-out is for kindergarten through 2nd/3rd grade, where there’s a separate gifted track that doesn’t rely on pre-k teachers nominating students
My wife is an elementary gifted ed specialist. The idea that gifted kids either don't exist or don't benefit from gifted education services is both wrong and harmful to those kids. Phasing out gifted programs is stupid. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/02/n...

If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. It’s ridiculous.

Pritzker: "In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists & protesters when unprovoked what would we call it? If officials marched down streets harassing civilians & demanding their papers, what would we say? I don't think we'd have trouble calling it what it is: authoritarianism"

Why is he declaring war on Portland, Oregon? Was he injured by a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir?
My Rapture look (wish I had thought of this much earlier had they given us a heads up that it was a-comin’ so I could’ve had it made in time): a T-shirt with Debbie Harry on one side, Anita Baker on the other …
I’ve started a substack about music, memory, and Gen X. Check it out. This is the intro essay — more to come in the next couple weeks.

The MSNBC commentator saying that most political violence has historically come from the left just once again showed how we suffer from failing to learn history. Lynching, pogroms, race riots, the political violence that ended Reconstruction, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Come on.
Please read and share this gutting, urgent piece by one of DAME's most searing writers. @brynntannehill.bsky.social is one of our "Cassandras" who has been warning us for years about the devastating impact this administration would have on trans people. Tragically, she's been right every time.
