Those claiming there’s no energy transition only an “energy addition,” are wrong. I told FT:

Yes, it’s correct that we are not on track globally to reduce emissions fast enough. But if you look at what’s happening across sectors, technologies, and geographies, you see real transitions underway.

I genuinely think one thing that trips up folks on the left is that they can't imagine not sharing certain core values. Lemme explain. Here's an intuition pump:

More bad news on AMOC: "I used to say that the chance of Amoc collapsing as a result of global warming was less than 10%”, said Prof @rahmstorf.bsky.social “Now even in a low-emission scenario, sticking to the Paris agreement, it looks like more like 25%."

I love this. It's crazy, pretty much everyone I know, everyone I've ever talked to about it, craves some sort of more communal living. *Everyone.* And yet the US offers almost no models -- you have to build it from the ground up.

Solar's rise is the fastest in the history of electricity

It's not stopping - and can't be stopped - and will dominate electricity consumption by 2035, everywhere

Burgum: "When the sun goes down, you have a catastrophic failure called sunset and there's no solar energy produced, and yet we're subsidizing these things that are intermittent, unreliable, and expensive. We've gotta get back to base load."

TBH, if we’re stuck with tariffs, they might as well be GHG intensity based. But the devil is in the details with the American proposal at play.
US Moves Toward Carbon Border Tax as Republicans Back "Pollution Fee Act"

Technically, if the act passes, it will be a carbon fee, not a carbon tax.

Potato, potatoe.

Bill proposed by Republicans, has bi-partisan support.

Incoming!

Exciting News: On Tuesday, I'm interviewing Mark Z Jacobson, director of Stanford University's renowned Atmosphere/Energy Program.

We'll be talking about his team's plan for Canada to run on 100% wind, solar, and water energy.

I'll post it here in the afternoon.

I just received a very interesting email from a reader who worked in nuclear power plant inspection and security for many years during the 1990s and 2000s. His basic point is that Microsoft's plan to revive the shuttered Three Mile Island nuclear plant is ludicrous on its face.
