This lady is hilarious. I don't even remember when I wrote her about library funding, that's how long ago it was. What, late spring, early summer? To answer @prisonculture.bsky.social 's earlier question, looks like she's catching up on emails!

Response email I received from Senator Elissa Slotkin, in whch I've redacted my name for privacy. The response is dated October 17, 2025 and states:

Thank you for reaching out to my office to express your support for the Institute of Museum and Library Services. I apologize for the delayed response to your message. As your new Senator as of January 2025, I sincerely appreciate hearing from you.

As you may know, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is an independent federal agency tasked with supporting museums and libraries across the county through funding, research, and policy development.

On March 14th, 2025, President Trump issued an Executive Order directing the elimination of this critical agency. Since then, the Administration has taken a number of steps in pursuit of that goal, including dismissing IMLS staff, terminating grants and contracts, and declining to request funding for the agency in its budget request for the upcoming fiscal year. Many of these actions have been challenged in court and are subject to ongoing litigation.

Like you, I recognize the value of IMLS and understand the critical role it plays in supporting libraries and museums across Michigan. That is why I have always been a proud supporter of (end of screenshot)

Heartbreaking: Neo-soul legends Angie Stone and D’Angelo both passed away in 2025, just 7 months apart. Stone died in March at 63. D’Angelo died today at 51. They shared a son together. An entire generation’s soundtrack, gone. Rest in power to both 🕊️💔
