This very curious female cardinal grace me with her presence for about 15 minutes. I feel very lucky and promise I will be posting far too many pictures of her later. #birds
A female cardinal regards to me curiously. She is looking me in the eye over her bright orange red beak.
Meet Aldi! One of the few Wild Bird Fund patients we can be friendly with. He loves pens. Still trying to figure out the whole food thing tho. #birds #pigeonsky
I volunteer in the pigeon room at the Wild Bird Fund in Manhattan and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened

I've got dozens more photos to share of the Ruby-crowned Kinglets that were in the gardens today... but I'd thought I'd share this one alone. It visually explains why they love the gardens so much... an all day non-stop Aphid buffet.

Funnily enough, I had *just* watched a different squirrel pull the same stunt with a Cooper's Hawk in the dunes. Buncha rodents with death wishes today. :) #birds
Photo of a Cooper's Hawk perched on top of a swallow nesting box on a pole, staring back over its shoulder in disbelief at a squirrel who has climbed to the top of the wire fence circling the whole setup. The squirrel does not look cowed.

I’ve often wondered what kind of blue items bower birds used to collect before they had access to all our discarded blue plastic crap. Well last week, my daughter saw a bower in western Qld largely unaffected by human littering - interesting, and kind of refreshing…

Find More Birds...in the middle of Manhattan!
Today in Washington Square Park we looked for:
🍒 fruiting trees (& found thrushes feasting on crabapples!)
🌳 bark that moves (& found sapsuckers)
🦅 birdy shapes & silhouettes (& found a Red-tailed Hawk), & so much more! 😁

Groove-billed Anis are fabulous birds. A type of cuckoo, this species lives in social groups of up to 10 birds and they collectively guard their territory and even share a nest together!

These birds were taking a break today at @tapirvalley.bsky.social to groom each other.
Five black birds perch closely together on a branch, their glossy feathers and long tails standing out against a blurred green forest background.

Was looking for something else when I came across a video of a Great Blue Heron flying from this summer. Here’s a still for you. Felt refreshing on a dreary morning. #birds
GBHR flies across the tall grasses growing from the pond
That beautiful bird is an osprey! They migrate long distances and are pretty strict fish eaters (99% of their diet).
Ok we got rained on by hermit thrushes Thursday on the east coast!
