Hard copy is usually beautiful. The fade comes from a worn microfilm of the original. That also means if you have access to a different copy of the microfilm that it can be better too.

But what about all the 19thC classics where people drop dead all the time?

But how do you even stop this? If my uni told me this, I’d be very happy to remove their bi-line from the remainder of things I produce that year. Are they going to fire me for writing too much?

The stock market is treated as a neutral good that every citizen needs to invest in.

…You’re screwed. Nobody has asked whether it’s moral or right that the state legislate people gamble their money like this. Nor is the stock market explored as potentially unethical practice. Nor does the state ask what liability they hold if people have nothing after a stock crash.

The ethics of this are also really dubious. In Oz we have compulsory superannuation, which is invested by the company your super is with. You can sometimes indicate whether you are conservative or not but don’t select your investment. And if the stock market crashes two weeks before retirement …
