Retouched some memorials today and it was great to see the completed protected intersection at St. George and Bloor St. It’s so sad that so many ghost bikes are in one condensed area. These memorials were installed by Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists.

Very cool to see Google Maps rolling out better bike route information! It now presents options: “Best route” “less traffic” and “more bike lanes.” It also has light green for basic bike lanes and dark green for trails and protected bike lanes (no color change from blue for neighborhood greenways)

Listen to a snippet of Episode 11 of Future Mending Radio where a friend and I listen to common Ontario bird calls and share jokes, facts and identification tips.

Why not put bird songs in your brain alongside pop songs?

No cycling today or likely this week. If I were a fast cyclist I would take the lane, but that’s not the case! #toronto #wintercycling

Ed Yong is the best!
On the cutting room floor is the bit where the host introduced their interview series, The Interview, and I asked how long it took to come up with the name. Anyway, here’s me talking about birds and science and burnout and moving through the world. The photo’s nice! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...
‘The Interview’: Ed Yong Wants to Show You the Hidden Reality of the World
The Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer talks about burnout from covering the pandemic and how bird-watching gave him a new sense of hope.

I think it’s melting? Maybe a good time to get my bike tuned up and focus on walking for the next week #Toronto #WinterCycling

This was yesterday’s walk into work - you can’t see the depth, but this is on top of a snowbank! The plows pushed the snow onto the sidewalk and nobody cleared it. Took the main roads home and they were in much better shape.

Won’t be riding today 😊

Adventurous cycling today. Some bike lanes were good, some not so good, but glad I made it to my destination. #Toronto #wintercycling #cycletoronto

This map shows which cycling routes have been plowed in Toronto, and how recently. There is even an option to show "cycling plows" www.toronto.ca/services-pay...

After a heavy snow one is really reminded of how little Toronto cares about pedestrians. The roads are basically passable but the sidewalks are still a mess

Drier conditions today but definitely colder! Not sure which is better? #cyclingtoronto #wintercycling #toronto
