Thousands of Londoners have indefinite leave to remain.

They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.

Threatening to deport people living and working here legally is unacceptable.

At the risk of repeating myself: there’s no bargaining with these people. What they’re calling for now is mass expulsions of long-term residents deemed insufficiently economically productive. There’s no way these demands won’t get even more extreme by election time.

My husband has indefinite leave to remain. It took us 6 years and £16,000 in visa, NHS, and lawyer fees for him to get it. Now we risk him losing his right to live in Scotland. This is terrifying for us & thousands of families.

Reform branded ‘threat to democracy’ over Farage plan to remove thousands of migrants with leave to be in UK – politics live
Nigel Farage says Reform UK would scrap the main route that migrants take to gain British citizenship

The far-right lie that migrants get everything handed to them on a silver platter is so laughably far from the truth. Only it's not laughable. And it's destroying lives.

I'm so, so angry at this xenophobia, blantantly false rhetoric.
If British citizens had to experience even a tiny percentage of what migrants have to go through to live in this country - the convoluted application process, the nonsensical Life in the UK test, the exorbitant fees, the double-taxing, the lack of access to services - they would be outraged.
Finally getting indefinite leave to remain last year after living and working in the UK for ten years, double-paying for the NHS with no access to public services, was a massive relief; the feeling I could finally settle. This uproots it all. Furious & exhausted.

Jesus. The IDR process - the whole immigration process - is so limited and convoluted and expensive already - the idea of making it even more so is unfathomable. Solidarity with you and your husband.
