“Fuck AI”

— Guillermo del Toro

🎥 Vanity Fair
It's actually wild learning that pop culture has latched onto this movie/play far more than the book. This really is where my understanding of the lore came from before reading Frankenstein.
The new Del Toro movie has snow in it so I'm so curious to see if it'll be a retelling of the book

and then people have the audacity to claim it's because you're not trying. your life flashes before your eyes. you are forced to internalize the reality that you trying your goddamned best is other people's version of "not trying at all"

Like when I finished Dracula I'm checking out one of the movies for finishing Frankenstein

With an opening like this I feel like I'm in for a treat (this coming from the 1931 movie)

Couple this with "I'm not a(n) ___insert ist/phobe___ but...."

If I hear either I immediately have 0 interest in what the person has to say next
I looked into it and the answer is no and the ending definitely proves that. But Mary had me going there considering we don't really see people reacting to him. And the folks who do see what could be a mad Victor. Or it could have ALL BEEN A DREAM
But no, that was my own imagination going wild
I also really loved just how blurred the lines between protagonist and antagonist really are though out this.

OH and for a while I thought maybe this could have helped inspire Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde with how do we know if the monster is actual real or is a figment of Victor's imagination
Just finished and just
wow
I felt like the ending just...sort of happens really quickly and then that's it. Was feeling kind of meh about it. But the more I think about it the more it's actually pretty reflective of the feeling one has once one's revenge plot is over. "Now what?" So good

we're about to enter a greater depression than the 1930s & it's all because the biggest, most successful western companies on the planet felt it necessary to make the line go up

their ad based revenue was already dwindling. their ludicrous gamble on LLMs is going to obliterate the global economy
BREAKING: Microsoft, $MSFT, leaders worried that meeting OpenAI’s rapidly escalating compute demands could lead to overbuilding servers that might not generate a financial return, per the Information
10000% Agreed
Between this, and folks having loud conversations on speaker phone on public transit, drives me up all of the walls

wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

Also a lady caught me reading at work yesterday:
Her, "good book?"
Me, "...actually yeah! It's Frankenstein."
Her, "oh, I don't like scary stories."
Me, "well, it hasn't actually been scary scary so far. More existential crisis and heart breaking really. You should check it out."
Dunno if she will
It'll be interesting to see if the new movie will touch on this part of Mr. Monster
I feel like the Frankie movies I have seen (which is like, two) have just been, "doc makes monster. Someone sees monster. People kill monster." They've skipped so much of this internal struggle that he actually has

Oh shoot was it? OOPS
We'll get the next one
(Or you can choose to be fashionably late)
You know...That was me. I thought this would be just a fun monster book
Instead I've faced real feels and being confronted with my own internal shadow

I see the error of my ways now. Genius is putting it lightly considering how young she was when she wrote this with just how insightful it still is
Right though? It has been so crazy how this holds up and is still SO relevant. The whole court scene vs what's happening all through the states??
And yes! The place descriptions are so good. They really add to the whole mood of each scene
I'm glad I'm an adult so I can relate to/see so much of this
ALSO THOUGH
That news article that was floating around about teachers being surprised about their students seeing the monster as a victim, it has to be click-bait. Again, I'm only half way through this but he's obviously a victim in all this
Though, if I were to see the monster as a loose metaphor for art that I make; how many times have I created something and then let it fend for itself in the wilds rather than trying to nurture it along?

I really am Victor. Send help
I am...Victor Frankenstein and I don't know how I feel about it

✅ Get absorbed in a passion for months on end
✅ Lose touch with friends/fam in that time
✅ Forget basic human needs in that time
✅ When feels get too hard, isolate self in nature
❌ Haven't made a monster...yet
This past couple of weeks I feel like I've been running around like a madman with work

In that time though I've moved onto Frankenstein and reading it has me even more excited for the new movie coming out

Spoilers though: already half way into it
