I have plenty of things to do to occupy my time and inevitably will be too exhausted to do most of them anyway for awhile, so it's probably moot anyway.

Privileged and petty whining but I am still disappointed with myself that I didn't plan better so that I could have bought some new video games I was excited about in time for surgery recovery.

I see protest discourse is hitting the feed again ahead of No Kings—idk man, go, don’t go,

…but if you do go make sure to link up with an org that’ll help you get into longterm organizing and if you don’t go, make sure to link up with an org that’ll help you get into longterm organizing

Do you even have the money to not care about your health? Do you have the money for the premiums, the prescriptions, the insurance, the copays, the deductibles? The specialists? The treatments? Do you know many things arent even covered by your insurance?

an illustration of book being pierced through by a sword, from the wound the thorns with red tips are growing, slowly changing into flowers, a red bookmark is there to symbolize blood.

the book reads 'It's alright to say No. You will always be a villain in someone's story...'

“Feathers grow a little different on some crows.” The Crow Time crow stands on a log and looks down at a smaller rounder crow with rainbow chest feathers perched on a branch. The smaller crow’s eyes sparkle in trans colors.

I...hope my point got across.

People suffer. In a variety of horrifying and mundane ways.

But to delegate WHAT suffering is allowed and to WHOM just puts us back into the same bucket as the whole NSFW conversation.

I know a lot of people think that having a female character who is raped or assaulted is cheap, lazy, and/or misogynist.

I used to be one of those people.

But sometimes, it just /is/.

A story, a part of a life, a way to explore something terrifying.

We can't ignore it.

Her husband (now deceased) found out accidentally. Her sister-in-law knows but will take the secret to her grave if necessary.

It's not a good story.

You know what she doesn't talk about, though?

Basically no one knows it happened. Not even the people who found her afterwards. She lied because she was scared of what would happen if anyone found out.

That she wouldn't be considered strong or trustworthy or "she deserved it."

This OC is one of the strongest women I have ever gotten the pleasure to write. She's a warrior and a resistance leader and has faced tragedy again and again.

She's blunt about her experiences, about how she almost lost her foot or got strangled or almost drowned or lost her family...

And I saw what happened to those who "had it worse."

No one believed them. And they were blamed for it.

This is something so deeply ingrained in me that I've been using this OC to have an outlet. I'm not sure it's healthy but it's what I have.

It comes from my own fear and experience. I was never assaulted but I lived in constant fear I would be.people around me told me this was a normal experience. That I shouldn't complain when men followed me on the street or heckled me.

That I should shut up, because it could always be worse.

Re: Last post
This thread will contain sensitive topics, such as discussion of sexual assault/rape. Proceed appropriately.

This is very important to me and also something I have difficulty navigating. Especially/because/ I have a female OC that has a backstory where she was raped.

like there's a lot of stuff that makes its female characters suffer in ways that feel scummy but the treatment of female characters being sad or suffering as inherently regressive and misogynist that sometimes crops up makes me raise my eyebrows in a "put your blorbo in the blender" economy

Yes your taxes should support disabled people.

They should support homeless people.

They should support those living in poverty, children and the elderly.

This is literally the purpose of taxes, and I would far rather support those who need it than continue to enrich the elite.

And also please enjoy this picture of Hawkwood (tuxedo cat) and Anri (orange cat). Hawkwood immediately bit Anri on the ear after I took this .
A tuxedo cat and an orange cat snuggling on a colorful bedspread.

The tuxedo cat is staring intently at the orange cat. As if plotting something.

I feel like the anxiety about posting your writing is a little like stage fright or the fear of public speaking. It may never go away, but you'll find how to manage it best for yourself as time goes on.

The biggest thing is doing what is best for you.

...all this rambling to say - your feelings are valid.

Find the way that makes sense for you. You have the drive to share! That's an incredible start! Don't disregard that either. Because that's the first step.

... hopefully this was of some use. If not, I can offer a cat pic as an apology.

I absolutely had the same experience though. My first fict after college and over...15 years or something? was ALL OC lore. I posted it as motivation for my to finish ShB, actually.

I was terrified then, and honestly? Still terrified now.

Because even if you're writing "for you," you want someone else to enjoy it.

If throwing it straight to the internet is a huge hurdle, potentially start with friends/Moots/RP partners? Eyes that aren't yours is a start! And if it never leaves that circle, that's okay too!
