🏈 Today is the 75th anniversary of the "Snow Bowl," the #Michigan - #OhioState football game that had such awful weather that the teams punted a combined 45 times. Gametime temperatures were in the teens and 7.5" of snow fell that day.

Scientists with NOAA and NASA have ranked this year’s ozone hole over the Antarctic as the fifth smallest since 1992 — the year that the Montreal Protocol, a landmark international agreement to phase out ozone-depleting chemicals began to take effect.

My moon conspiracy theory is that every astronaut who sees the Earth from space immediately says “That’s a spicy meatball!” and NASA is covering it up.

Our Breville toaster oven just bit the dust... after only five years! We use it a lot, but holy cow it should last longer than that.

When I was working on today's weather newsletter, I was struck by how today's record low of -3 is so starkly different than yesterday's and tomorrow's (10 and 11, respectively). And then I noticed that year, 1880, had several *more* record cold days at this time — five out of six, in fact! (1/2)

Expect this list to grow: Three of the top 5 deadliest heat waves in world history have been in Europe in the past five years. "Mitigating further global warming can reduce heat mortality, but mass mortality events remain plausible at near-future temperatures despite current adaptations to heat."

Local news outlet had this as the forecast for today. It is not slushy, and it certainly has not looked like it was going to be slushy for some time.

If you're going to have weather, have a meteorologist.

November 17-19, 2014:

A massive lake effect snow event impacted Buffalo, New York. Over the course of 3 days, bands from Lake Erie produced snowfall rates up to 3-6" per hour. Totals in many areas peaked at over five feet. Tragically, thirteen people were killed.

I really wonder if our waste company actually processes recycling. One neighbor always puts garbage in his recycling bin (and it's obvious), and another neighbor put a plant in their bin this week.

What was the weather like on your birthday? Now you can find out!

During the shutdown, I forced myself to stay agile in data science tech, like AWS, Google, and Open AI.

I made a notebook that gets weather for the day/location of your birth, using multiple NOAA sources.

This cold outbreak was also impressive in how far south it pushed, even to #Miami, FL. The Miami International Airport #KMIA set its first record low (49°F) in more than a decade!

Between the last two record lows (11/2/14 to 11/11/25), there have been *97 new record highs* set at the airport. #FLwx
