My upcoming novel, The Séance Garden, is based in Monterey & I did a lot of research on the Monterey Bay Aquarium -- & its otter program! They've done such important work to help bring sea otters back from the brink of extinction. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqxy...

NPR reported this morning that, based on their review of the #Epstein emails released yesterday, Trump’s name appeared more than 1,000 times in the document—

Pardon my suddenly watery eyes, but a long-time regular just stopped in with this.

He'd been reading, found this line, and thought of me, so he wrote it out and brought it in.

"I am a handmaiden of civilization. I am a bookseller."

Hey could really use some of that good ole “red wine and chocolate actually have huge health benefits” type news in the cycle again please. Some of that “cheese has way more protein per serving than you think” energy

Instead of funneling endless amounts of money into our bloated Pentagon budget while thousands of veterans face homelessness and hunger, let’s use those funds to truly take care of our veterans — ensuring every one has a home, food, and access to medical and mental health care.

My dad was a proud veteran (Marine, Coast Guard, Navy).
He was gone a lot, missed a lot. The family moved around often. Dad experienced a lot of trauma, and though he never spoke of it, it left its mark.
No matter one's political perspective, I hope we can all agree that service equals sacrifice.

Had a visitor the other day. He was *not* happy with me waking him from a well-deserved nap -- thus the side-eye.
In related news, Fernando-the-Cat was PISSED.
(In *other* related news, my house sure looks messy! And yes, those are my feet.)

We have not long to love.
Light does not stay.
The tender things are those
we fold away.
Coarse fabrics are the ones
for common wear....

So moments pass as though
they wished to stay.
We have not long to love.

Went to a beautiful impromptu wedding at the courthouse! So uplifting & fun & hopeful.
Still, this is the second wedding I've gone to which had to happen immediately due to legal threats to same-sex marriage. How are we still dealing with this basic right for loving adults to be together???

Asylum Hotel was picked up by Once Upon a Book Club -- they asked me to sign 1000 bookplates! I returned from my travels to find the box includes not only my novel but novel-related items such as a clock, journal, & travel mug marked with the page references. Such fun! Thank you, OUBC!!!

If you and your children are not ready for a particular book, that is okay. It is not okay to limit the access to books, stories, and experiences for other families. Every book is not for everyone, but every book is for someone.
